Ooo, the party buffet or even the hotel breakfast buffet. As a dietitian, I hear this is where many people struggle to “keep it together.” It’s like suddenly all sense of control disappears when you see what’s on offer.

Now, imagine a time when this could actually be fun without spiralling into “forget about it, I’ll start again tomorrow” and diving headfirst into the pastries. That default “permission” to overdo it? It’s outdated and unhelpful.

You need a reset.
And the answer isn’t: “I won’t attend any parties for three months” or “I’ll only have coffee at breakfast.”

That’s not the solution. The answer lies in learning how to navigate these moments, so you can enjoy yourself and still feel in control: no extremes, no guilt, just balance.

Do you leave the “diet” at home when you party? 🎉

That reckless abandon feels amazing like being 20 or 30 years younger, free of all constraints. We love it until tomorrow hits. 😅

The truth is, it doesn’t have to be an either/or scenario. So many of us swing between extreme strict restriction or total freedom and wonder why it never sticks.
There’s another way. Door number 3.

You can enjoy what you eat, celebrate without guilt, and still take care of the health you’ve worked hard for. It’s about understanding your body, knowing what works for you, and building habits that allow you to move through life without the cycle of restriction and blowouts.

Enjoying life is the first prize not the rollercoaster of dieting. Learning how to eat for you makes that possible.

If we’re going to lounge by a pool all day - the thing some of us fantasise about while enduring the grind or whatever version of this we each identify with (swirling vortex of terror, perhaps!) what is it that we love so much about it?

The heat? The water? The sounds? The pure laziness of it?

Maybe take a moment today to remember how it feels. Daydream a little about that feeling. Give yourself a tiny respite from the everyday.

It’s better for you than diving into a bottle of wine or a tub of ice cream and your body will thank you for the trip down memory lane.
