At Choice Support Tasmania, we walk alongside some of the most vulnerable members of our community every single day. We see their strength, their resilience, and their determination to live meaningful, independent lives. But right now, many of the people we support and many other people we read about breaking our hearts are facing an incredibly uncertain and frightening time.
Recent changes and significant cuts to NDIS plans through the National Disability Insurance Scheme are having a real and immediate impact. For participants who rely on consistent, structured support, reductions in funding don’t just mean “doing a little less” — they can mean going without essential daily assistance, losing trusted support workers, reduced community access, increased isolation, and heightened risks to health and wellbeing while making decisions about their needs Frim behind a computer!
For families, these cuts create enormous pressure. Parents, guardians, and loved ones are being forced to fill gaps that are simply not sustainable. Many are already exhausted, emotionally and physically. The fear of losing vital supports, therapies, personal care, community participation, behavioural supports, places people in desperate need at genuine risk.
We are deeply concerned about what this means not just for today, but for the long-term stability and safety of the people we support. Disability support is not a luxury. It is not optional. It is essential and necessary for us to take a serious stand against this nonsense with these cuts and putting lives in danger.
At Choice Support Tasmania, our commitment remains unwavering. We are here to:
• Support our participants with dignity and respect
• Help families navigate complex plan reviews and appeals
• Advocate fiercely for fair and reasonable funding
• Stand beside our community during challenging times
We may not control policy decisions, but we will always control how strongly we advocate, how compassionately we support, and how loudly we speak up when the people in our care are placed at risk.
To our participants and families: you are not alone. We see you. We hear you. And we will continue to fight for the supports you need and deserve to the best we can all the way
Together, we will keep pushing for a system that protects, empowers, and uplifts the very people it was designed to support.
This is normally not a post that I would like to post or write but after seeing so many people left with worry, fear and outright anger at the fact that these budgets are being cut by people who need to support the participant and then see how they are in need makes me so mad and very disappointed.
We would love to hear your story and your thoughts 💜
