💼 Inner West Vocational Support Network – April Session

Families are invited to take part in a special consultation session as part of the Young Voices Big Choices project, presented by Council for Intellectual Disability.

This session has been designed specifically for families of young people living with an intellectual disability (aged 16–25) to share their experiences and help shape future supports and programs.

🗓 Thursday 30 April
🕑 2:00 – 4:00pm
📍 Concord Oval (Canadian Exile Room)

During the session, we will explore key life transitions such as:
• Leaving school
• Starting work, training or study
• Moving out of home
• Planning for the future

Families will also learn about Supported Decision Making and connect with others navigating similar experiences.

Matilda’s journey shows how the right support can make the transition from school to employment smoother and more empowering 💛

Through the School Leaver Employment Supports (SLES) program, Matilda is developing skills and confidence for her future.

Supported Independent Living (SIL) also plays an important role in helping her live independently while staying connected to her community.

Together, these supports empower people living with a disability to build independence and move towards meaningful opportunities.

It’s been wonderful to see our Intergenerational Program bring people together through shared experiences, movement and meaningful connection.

Over the past sessions, participants have built confidence, formed new relationships and enjoyed learning from one another in a supportive and inclusive environment 🌿

Meet Matilda 💛

Join us for our final Saturday Club outing of the month as we head to Featherdale Wildlife Park for a full day of exploration and connection.

From meeting Australian wildlife to enjoying time together outdoors, it’s a wonderful opportunity to build confidence, social connection and community participation in a supportive environment for people living with a disability.

🤝 Inner West Disability Forum – March 2026

Join us for the upcoming Inner West Disability Forum, a member-led initiative bringing together people living with a disability, families, carers, service providers and the wider community for an afternoon of connection and shared learning.

💛💙 This special session recognises World Down Syndrome Day and will feature a panel sharing lived experience, including parents and family members supporting people with Down syndrome.

Together, we will explore:
✨ Building meaningful and self-directed lives
✨ Raising expectations and focusing on strengths
✨ Creating supportive environments across education, employment and community
✨ Promoting genuine inclusion and challenging misconceptions
