How many calf raises can you do? 🦵

Being able to do 25+ single leg calf raises is a great start to reducing your injury risk. But a recent study found that participants could do 12 fewer calf raises when their calf raise technique was corrected.

Rolling out, bending the knee and hip hitching are common strategies we see in the clinic.

So next time you do your calf raises try these cues and see how many you can do…

1. Push through the big toe
2. Keep your knee straight
3. Hips level
4. Top of your head to the roof
5. Up 1 second, down 1 second

Having a professional running assessment helps to highlight aspects of your gait that can be tweaked to reduce stress on an injury or improve running performance.

Crossing over the legs can put increased strain on the shin, knee and hip, leading to overloading injuries like shin splints, runner’s knee and gluteal tendinopathy.

Making these changes, along with appropriate strength training and hands on techniques go a long way in getting you running pain free!
