Are you a speech pathologist feeling burnt out? Maybe it’s your caseload or your work environment.

Have you been hesitant to look for a new workplace because you’re worried the next one might be the same - or dare I say… worse?

I may not be the best businesswoman, but I am proud of building a team that loves what they do and builds each other up.

We’re a small team of speech pathologists and occupational therapists with big hearts. We just want to grow, learn, and support one another.

So ... maybe this is a sign that you need to JUST DO IT (apply) 🤗💚

Day 2 of celebrating small wins with crystal candy. Val has been working hard to set solid clinical foundations 🥳🥳 very proud of her (minus the dropping the candy HAHA).

Day 1 of celebrating small wins with crystal candy 😂😂😂

Our team has been going through a workshop called Thriving Clinicians. A time where we're reflecting and thinking about what it means to thrive in the workplace (and in our personal lives) and identifying burn out.

We are focusing on making sure our foundations are right so that we can thrive e.g. systemising tasks to reduce our cognitive load, brainstorming how to be more efficient, time management etc.

Progress notes done? ✅️ that's our win for today.

A fail was the mic not turning on LOL 🎤🙅‍♀️

AAC (Augmentative and Alternative Communication) gives children and adults access to share their voice. This can include gestures, signs, pictures, communication boards, or high-tech speech-generating devices.
One of the biggest myths about AAC is that a child has to be “ready” before using it, or that it will stop them from learning to talk. The truth is, children don’t need to prove readiness, AAC gives them access to language right now. Research also shows that AAC never prevents speech. In fact, it can often support and encourage language development.

Every voice matters. Every way of communicating is valuable. This month, let’s celebrate all the ways children and adults express themselves and remind our communities that communication is a human right.

Our work as Speechies is often rewarding, but it can also be emotionally and mentally demanding — balancing caseloads, supporting families, navigating paperwork, and giving so much of ourselves to others.

This World Mental Health Day is a reminder to:

🌱 Set healthy boundaries

☕ Take breaks without guilt

🤝 Lean on colleagues and support networks

💤 Prioritise rest as much as productivity

💜 Give yourself the same compassion you give to clients

Caring for ourselves allows us to keep caring well for others.

To all the SLPs out there: your mental health matters, and you are making a difference every single day. 🕊️

Day 4 💚 Communication is powerful. It’s how we connect, belong, and stand up for ourselves. 💬

As speech pathologists, we support individuals to:

✅ Build confidence to express their needs and wants

✅ Develop skills for self-advocacy in school, work, and community settings

✅ Find their voice in moments of challenge—like standing up to bullying or seeking acceptance

✅ Use the communication tools that work best for them (spoken words, AAC, sign, writing)

Did you know… Speech pathologists don’t work alone? We’re part of your child’s support team – and that team might include:
👩‍⚕️ Paediatricians
🧠 Psychologists
✋ OTs
🦷 Dentists
🧩 Behaviour support
🧬 Neurologists
👂 Audiologists
📚 Teachers… and more!

Why? Because your child is so much more than one skill or one setting.

We want to see the whole picture — their strengths, needs, and how they grow across home, school, and play.

Here’s what teamwork means to us:
→ 🤝 Sharing knowledge across professionals
→ 🎯 Aligning goals and strategies for consistency
→ 🔁 Referring when something’s out of our scope - so each professional does what they do best
→ 🚀 Maximise progress and support families more holistically
But it’s not just who is on the team — it’s how we work together.
💬 Good communication between professionals is key.

When we stay connected and update each other (with your consent!), we can:
✅ Provide consistent strategies across settings
🚫 Avoid mixed messages
🔍 Notice patterns or progress early
🤗 Support your child more effectively together
When we collaborate, we don’t just talk — we team up.

Because helping your child thrive isn’t a one-person job. It takes a village. 🧡

At Kairos Speech, we are committed to advocating for our clients. We actively refer when needed and are building a network of multilingual professionals to meet the unique needs of the families we support.

💬 Have you had a great experience with a collaborative team? Tag them below or share your story — we’d love to hear!
