Make the Shift is a toolkit that has strategies, resources and ideas designed to help Victorian employers to develop mentally healthy workplaces and promote the mental wellbeing of their shift workers. **Our Vision:**

For all Victorian workplaces to be mentally healthy for shift workers.

**Our Mission:**

To provide workplace strategies that can be easily accessed and used by regional employers and shift workers for building mentally healthy work environments.

**Our Goals:**

- To help employers and employees identify and understand the risks associated with shift work
- To provide a range of simple strategies and tools that can protect the mental well-being of shift workers
- To enhance the accessibility and relevance of these tools in a regional context.
- To promote mentally healthy workplaces in regional settings in Victoria

**Who we are:**

The Working Well in Wellington project was established in 2018. It is managed by Wellington Primary Care Partnership, under the auspice of Gippsland Women’s Health, and is supported by WorkSafe’s WorkWell Mental Health Improvement Fund.

According to WorkSafe, fatigue is an acute and or ongoing state that leads to physical, mental or emotional exhaustion and prevents people from functioning safely.

Under the Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004, employers must provide and maintain, so far as is reasonably practicable, a working environment that is safe and without risks to the health of employees. This includes taking steps to prevent and respond to work-related fatigue.

The Mentally Healthy Workplace Alliance defines the following as common attributes of a mentally healthy workplace:

-Positive Workplace Culture: Put simply, people feel good about coming to work, and everyone is encouraged and supported.

-Stress and Other Risks to Mental Health are Managed: Stress, heavy workloads, unrealistic deadlines, poor communication, uncertainty – these and other factors can all contribute to anxiety and depression, and it is up to managers and leaders to keep them in check.

-People with Mental Health Conditions are Supported: Helping employees to stay at or return to work has clear benefits, both for the individual and the business.

-Zero-Tolerance Approach to Discrimination: As well as being a legal requirement, protecting employees from discrimination encourages
