The event is - Tanner and Ed’s Epic Hike for Lyme - Shining the Lyme Light for 90 Miles. It is an extra special one for us at LaLa as some of you may (or may not) know Chelsea’s son Tanner was struck down with an illness in 2018 at the age of 11 after being bitten by a tick in Lakes Entrance. Sadly, tick borne illnesses, such as Lyme Disease are not recognised in Australia and this meant a huge and traumatic journey for Tanner and Chelsea’s family. Tanner was so unwell, going in and out of consciousness constantly throughout the day (spending many hours asleep in spare therapy rooms) yet the medical world dismissed all of his symptoms and pain because Lyme is not recognised in Australia. Fast forward 12 months and the family finally found a Dr in Sydney that listened, tested and treated Tanner. Tests that were conducted overseas confirmed Tanner infact DID have Lyme disease. Tanner went to Sydney for monthly treatments in 2019, 2020. 2021 and 2022. His treatment was tough and put a massive strain on everyone but they persevered and in 2023 Tanner was able to stop treatment and lead a somewhat normal life. He returned to school full time, and is about to begin year 12 in 2025. Tanner made a statement when the Drs told him it was in his head, that when he got better he would do whatever he could to ensure that no other Aussie kid (or adult) would have to go through what he went through with the medical world. AND here he is. Tanner and his best mate Ed are preparing to walk the 90 mile beach from one end to the other raising awareness and funds for the Lyme Disease Association of Australia - the one organisation that heard Tanner’s story, listened and guided Tanner and his family to find help. So much needs to happen in this country (one of the only countries that don't recognise the illness) to change the awareness, testing and treatment for Lyme and tick-borne illnesses and LaLa is getting behind the boys as a corporate sponsor.

You may even hear about the hike on the radio, papers and even the news. The boys set off on the 8th of December - finishing at their own Lakes Entrance Surf Life saving Club on Saturday the 14th of December.
