We are delighted to announce that Dr Joanna Noakes will be joining Bluff Road Medical this April. With a broad range of experience in regional NSW, the N.T. and three years of paediatric training in Brisbane, Dr Jo developed her passion for Specialist General Practice.

She is committed to delivering high-quality, inclusive care to all patients, with a special interest in women's and children's health, preventative care, and chronic diseases. Dr Noakes will be available for consultations on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

This Heart Failure Awareness Week, it’s worth pausing to recognise a condition that affects so many Australians — often without obvious early signs. Heart failure doesn’t mean the heart has stopped; it simply isn’t pumping as well as it should, making everyday activities feel harder than they used to.

Keep an eye out for symptoms such as shortness of breath, fatigue, swelling in the legs or abdomen, sudden weight gain, or a rapid heartbeat. Early recognition and the right care can make a huge difference.

And remember, you don’t need to wait for symptoms to look after your heart. Eating well, staying active, sleeping properly, managing blood pressure and cholesterol, avoiding smoking, and staying in touch with your healthcare team all help support long-term heart health.

Ovarian cancer can be hard to detect early because the symptoms are often subtle. Persistent bloating, abdominal pain, changes in appetite, frequent urination, bowel changes, or unexplained fatigue are all signs worth paying attention to.

Risk can increase with age, family history, or genetics, but it doesn’t mean the disease is inevitable. Staying informed and listening to your body are among the best ways to look after your health.

If you’re unsure about your own risk or whether any tests are suitable for you, having a chat with your doctor is a good first step.

Mohammed is an Australian-trained GP Registrar joining us while he completes his Fellowship, and we’re thrilled to have him on board. He brings a broad background across internal medicine, surgery, emergency care and children’s health, and is now transitioning into primary care with a genuine passion for supporting patients over the long term.

Mohammed has a calm, thoughtful approach. He values clear communication and shared decision-making, making sure patients feel informed and supported every step of the way.

He’s developing particular interests in preventive health, men’s health and metabolic health — including weight management and optimising chronic conditions.
