In hard times, people often don't need to “stay positive.” They need something steady to hold onto. A small light in the dark.

Psychiatrist Viktor Frankl wrote about the human ability to find meaning, even during suffering. Not because pain is good, and not because struggle should be ignored, but because hope can still exist at the same time as hardship.

Sometimes that light looks very simple. A kind word. A daily routine. A person who stays. A reason to keep going.

Take a moment to notice what has been helping you get through, even in small ways, and see if you can make a little more room for it this week.

Have you heard of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs?

Maslow's hierarchy is a simple idea from psychology: human beings tend to cope best when their basic needs are met first. Things like food, sleep, safety, connection, and stability create the foundation for wellbeing. When those needs are under strain, it can be much harder to focus, cope, or feel like yourself.

This can be a useful reminder during stressful seasons. Sometimes the most important step is not pushing harder. It is checking in with the basics and strengthening the foundation.

This week, try one small reset: eat a proper meal, go to bed a little earlier, text someone you trust, step outside for fresh air, or make your space feel calmer and safer.

Did you know that human beings are wired for connection?

From birth, our nervous systems respond to warmth, safety, and being understood by others. Connection can help us feel calmer, more grounded, and less alone, especially during stress.

That does not mean you need a big social circle. Sometimes connection looks like one safe person, one honest conversation, or one moment of feeling seen.

If connection has been feeling hard lately, start small. Reach out to someone you trust, or consider taking a first step toward support.

"True contentment is not having everything, but in being satisfied with everything you have." ~ Oscar Wilde

Contentment isn't about having everything you want—it's about appreciating what you have while still growing as a person. Research shows that contentment differs from happiness in important ways: while happiness often depends on external circumstances, contentment comes from inner acceptance and mindful awareness.

Ask yourself:
• Do I notice and appreciate small, everyday moments?
• Can I find joy in simple pleasures without needing more?
• Am I experiencing more emotional balance in my daily life?

Contentment doesn't mean settling or giving up on goals. It means finding balance between striving and accepting, between wanting more and appreciating now.

Quick contentment practice: Take three deep breaths and name one thing you're genuinely grateful for right now. Notice how this simple shift affects your mood.

If you're struggling to find contentment or feel stuck in cycles of dissatisfaction, talking with a professional can help you develop healthier thought patterns and coping strategies.

Continuing the conversation about access to appropriate care, principal psychologist and director Tess published another piece with Women's Agenda today: this time covering the problematic NDIS pricing review dropped this week.

The article examines how cutting rates for allied health providers working with NDIS participants disproportionately impacts women with disability and puts increased pressure on clinicians working in this space.

You can read the piece here:

Thanks to the editorial team at Women's Agenda team for giving this issue the space it deserves.

To other allied health professionals: Let's unite and have our voices heard. We are stronger together! 💪

Cutting therapy rates and travel reimbursements may save the NDIA money in the short term. But the long-term cost will be devastating.

We're proud to share that our principal psychologist and director, Tess, has been published in Women's Agenda, contributing to the national conversation on ADHD reform and mental health care in Australia.

The op-ed explores the NSW ADHD reform and raises important concerns about the removal of psychologists from the diagnostic process — particularly how this may impact women and girls, who are already underdiagnosed and underserved.

We believe reforms should improve access without compromising quality, safety, or professional expertise — especially when it comes to complex, gendered presentations.

🧠 Read the full article here:

The new ADHD reform is being hailed for increasing “access” and “efficiency.” But when systems prioritise speed, they miss people.

🍂 Autumn is nature’s reminder to slow down.

As the leaves change and the air cools, it’s the perfect time to turn inward, reflect, and check in with yourself.

🧣 What are you holding onto that it might be time to let go of?
🫖 Where could you make space to rest, reset, or reconnect?

Self-care in autumn doesn’t have to be big or fancy—it might look like:
🍵 A quiet cuppa under a blanket
📖 Journaling for ten minutes
🚶‍♂️ A walk through crisp leaves
💬 Or booking that appointment you’ve been putting off

You don’t have to do it all. Just start where you are. 🍁

😔 It’s okay to feel sad.
No silver linings. No “just be positive.” No quick fixes.

Sadness is a normal, human emotion—not something to avoid, fix, or feel guilty about. It can show up when we’re grieving, overwhelmed, or just navigating life’s messiness.

✨ You don’t need a “reason” to feel the way you do.
✨ You don’t need to pretend you’re okay when you’re not.
✨ You are allowed to feel sad—and still be strong.

If you’re sitting in the sadness right now, you're not alone. We’re here when you’re ready.

🌿 Ever heard of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)?

ACT (pronounced like the word 'act') is a powerful, evidence-based therapy that helps people stop fighting difficult thoughts and feelings—and start living a more meaningful life.

Rather than trying to “get rid of” anxiety, sadness or pain, ACT helps you make room for them, while focusing on what really matters to you. It’s about accepting what’s out of your control and committing to actions that align with your values.

✨ In other words: Feel what you feel, do what you care about.
📍 Curious? All of our psychologists are trained in ACT and happy to chat!

Tuesday Check-in! 🥚✨ Easter’s over, and so is the chocolate-induced daze… almost.

As we settle back into routine this Tuesday, it’s a good time to check in with yourself:

How are you feeling heading into the rest of the week?
Are you giving yourself time to slow down, reset, and reconnect with what matters?

If things feel a little off, you’re not alone—and you don’t have to figure it out alone either. Therapy can help you move forward with intention, clarity, and care.

📅 Our psychologists are here to support you—whether you’re navigating big life stuff or just need a space to breathe and reflect.

🌿 **Embracing the Cracks** 🌿

"There is a crack in everything. That's how the light gets in." — Leonard Cohen

Life isn’t about being perfect. It’s in our cracks—the moments of vulnerability, pain, or uncertainty—that we often find our greatest potential for growth and healing.

Sometimes, it’s through these imperfections that the light of understanding, compassion, and resilience finds its way in. And with time, those cracks can become the places where we learn to heal, transform, and rediscover our strength.

Remember, you're not alone in this journey. 🌱

Spring is here, and so are the unexpected gardening lessons! Just like those surprise tulips poking through the dirt, growth often starts in the most unexpected places—like the depths of a metaphorical compost pile. 😂💩

Let us help you sprout through the challenges and bloom into your best self. Let’s dig into this season of growth with a smile! Grab a shovel! 🌼😄
