This is your gentle reminder to organise your yearly thorough blood test 🔬
If you are wondering when was your last one and cannot remember, it has clearly been too long!
Regular blood tests are one of the most effective ways to monitor and improve your health.

Usually, we give a personalised list of test recommendations to our patients at the end of their consult as we got to really know them and their health.

The basic tests I would recommend* if we didn’t know you would be:
-Iron studies
-Vitamin D
-Vitamin B12
-Thyroid: TSH, T4, T3
-Fasting insulin
-Lipids
*Of course this list is general and not personalised to YOU, which is what Naturopathy is all about.

Important clinic information for July-September 2025 ⤵️

👉🏼Manon will be traveling to see family from July to the end of September.
She will have some work weeks within her holiday and consultations will only be via Telehealth (Zoom) during that time.
💊🌿Supplements and herbals prescribed will be able to be picked up from the Scarborough clinic or posted - nothing changes!

👉🏼Victoria will continue to consult as usual at the Scarborough clinic + via Telehealth during that time and will keep the Scarborough clinic running smoothly 🌼

You can book your consults as usual via our website, just make sure to select “Telehealth” when booking with Manon during that time.

Lentil & Beetroot Salad with Goats Feta & Walnuts

Lentils are a great source of plant protein, minerals like iron and fibre.
I love making this salad so much with all its colours and you get to enjoy lentils cold for once 🤗

➰Ingredients:
-1 cup French Green Lentils, soaked for 1/2 day, rinsed and cooked for 10-15 min (try to not overcook them)
-2 Beetroots cut in cubes, steamed
-1 Carrot, grated
-1 cup Walnuts, roughly chopped
-½ cup Goats Feta
-2-3 handfuls Rocket or Kale, roughly chopped
-Juice of 1 lime
-Good drizzle of Extra Virgin Olive Oil
-Big pinch Sea Salt and Pepper

➰Method:
Toss all the ingredients together in a bowl, reserving some feta and walnuts for the top.
Dress with the lime, extra virgin olive oil, sea salt and pepper.
Serve in a bowl and top with extra feta and walnuts.
Serves about 4, enjoy 🤤

Less is more 👌🏼

In today’s society, we are made to believe that we always have to try the latest health trend, and always do more, more and more 😮‍💨

But we often forget that sometimes doing less is the most effective and the necessary thing to do.

I know, sometimes you think you are doing the right thing, but you may in fact, be causing more harm than good 🤷‍♀️

This is why we are here, we love guiding our patients back to health! And yes, we will always suggest to stop or tweak something that we think is contributing to your symptoms.
Then comes the rest of the treatment suggestions such as extensive testing, nutrition, herbal medicine and supplements!

The ones mentioned above are just a few examples!

This is something that we discuss with our patients in clinic everyday 💄🎨🛀🏽🧼💅🏼

According to the women put over 168 different chemicals on their bodies each day.
Not surprising when a moisturiser can contain up to 30 ingredients!

You would think that if a product is on the market, surely it has been tested and it is safe right? 
Unfortunately, the cosmetics industry is very unregulated and there are very few things in place to ensure the safety of those chemicals.

Many of these chemicals are what we call Endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) which are chemicals that may mimic, block, or interfere with your body’s hormones. Others are also linked to some cancers… No thanks 🙅🏼‍♀️

The worst ones of all are probably Artificial Fragrances and Phthalates.
Phthalates are a group of chemicals used to make the scent last longer. They are used in perfumes, shampoos, deodorants, moisturisers, soaps, laundry powders, candles, air fresheners.
But they are also added to plastics to make them more flexible and durable.

Some other bad chemicals for you to remember and avoid are:
-Parabens
-Sodium Lauryl Sulfate (SLS), Sodium Laureth Sulfate (SLES) 
-Formaldehyde
-Petroleum derivatives like mineral oil
-Propylene Glycol

What can you do?
Reduce how many products you use and choose them wisely (less is more), there are so many natural options on the market now 🌿🌼

I love recommending 3 tools to navigate this chemical maze:

- EWG Skin Deep: A database where you can search common cosmetics ingredients to check for potential health concerns or hazards. https://www.ewg.org/skindeep/faq/
-Yuka app: as you can scan the barcode of a product to get clear information about ingredients.
