IS ALCOHOL REALLY A POISON?

People get weirdly defensive when you call alcohol a poison.

Not angry.
Not curious.
Defensive.

That pause.
That tightening.
That half-laugh before the comeback.

That tells you more than the argument ever will.

Say it plainly and watch what happens.

“Everything in moderation.”
“Don’t be dramatic.”
“Life’s for living.”

It comes out fast.
Almost rehearsed.

Translation?
Please don’t mess with the story I tell myself about this.

Because if alcohol isn’t what I think it is…
then what does that say about how often I reach for it?

Here’s the part that isn’t up for debate.

Ethanol is a toxin.
Not morally.
Not socially.
Biologically.

Your body does not process alcohol like food.
It doesn’t convert it into energy.
It doesn’t store it for later.

It treats it like a threat that needs dealing with.
Immediately.

🚨

The moment alcohol hits your system, your liver drops everything else.

Fat burning pauses.
Blood sugar wobbles.
Sleep becomes lighter and more fragmented.
Inflammation rises.
Brain chemistry gets shoved around just to keep things upright.

This isn’t opinion.
It’s physiology.

Not because you’re weak.
Not because you lack willpower.
Not because you overdid it.

Because that’s what the human body does when a toxin shows up.

This is where people start accusing you of fear-based language.

As if naming reality is an attack.

Calling alcohol a poison isn’t about scaring people straight.
It’s about accuracy.

☠️

Poison doesn’t mean instant death.
It means the body has to neutralise it to survive.

Snake venom.
Cyanide.
Ethanol.

Different doses.
Different timelines.
Same category.

And yes, the body can tolerate small amounts.

Just like it tolerates:
– poor sleep
– chronic stress
– pollution
– smoke

You can live with all of those.
For a while.

Tolerance isn’t benefit.
It’s damage management.

Here’s the bit that actually matters, and the bit most people feel before they understand it.

Alcohol always costs something.

Every time.

The only variable is whether you notice the bill yet.

For some people it’s loud and immediate.

Hangovers.
Anxiety.
Racing thoughts at 3am.
S**t sleep that never feels restorative.
Weight creeping up despite “not drinking that much”.

For others it’s quieter.

Flat mood.
Brain fog that coffee can’t fix.
Low drive.
Short fuse.
That permanently, slightly fried nervous system.

Because alcohol is normalised, they don’t blame the drink.
They blame themselves.

“What’s wrong with me?”
“Why can’t I get it together?”
“Why am I always tired?”

They optimise everything except the obvious.

Then they stop drinking.

Not forever.
Not with a grand declaration.
Just long enough.

Long enough for the body to exhale.
Long enough for the nervous system to stand down.

And things change.

😴 Sleep deepens.
🧠 Head clears.
😌 Mood steadies.
⚡ Energy comes back.

Not overnight.
Not magically.

Quietly.
Consistently.

Not because alcohol was evil.
Not because they were broken.

But because the system finally got a break from defending itself.

That’s the reward no one advertises.

Not abs.
Not hustle.
Not productivity p**n.

Just a steadier baseline.
A calmer inner climate.
Life feeling a little easier to carry.

You can still choose to drink.
That’s your call.

But choose honestly.

Alcohol isn’t a harmless pleasure with good branding.
It’s a toxin the body tolerates.

Discomfort is usually the first signal that something true just landed. 🙏💯💖
