TIME TO CARE โ€“ MAKE CARERS COUNT THIS STATE ELECTION

This State Election, Carers SA is calling on MPs and election candidates to take meaningful action to support unpaid Carers across South Australia.

One of our election asks is a dedicated South Australian Carer Card a practical, proven solution for Carers.

A SA Carer Card would:
โœ”๏ธ Deliver real cost-of-living relief through concessions and discounts
โœ”๏ธ Be based on successful models in Victoria and advocacy in Western Australia
โœ”๏ธ Provide access to transport, health-related parking, utilities, leisure activities and local government services
โœ”๏ธ Connect Carers with a wide network of participating businesses across retail, hospitality, entertainment and transport
โœ”๏ธ Be inclusive and fair, available to all Carers who meet the Carer Recognition Act definition, with no age or income barriers

Carers play an essential role in our community, yet too often they go unrecognised and financially stretched. A SA Carer Card is a tangible way to recognise Carers and ease everyday pressures.

Heatstroke happens when the body temperature rises above 40.5 degrees Celsius. Immediate first aid is needed to lower the body temperature as quickly as possible.

To treat heatstroke:
โ€ข If you notice symptoms in yourself or others, call Triple Zero (000) immediately.
โ€ข If the person is unconscious, do not give them aspirin or paracetamol
โ€ข move them to a cool area and keep them still
โ€ข give them small sips of fluid.

If you can, bring their temperature down by:
โ€ข sponging them with cool water
โ€ข putting them in a cool shower
โ€ข spraying them with cool water from a garden hose
โ€ข soaking their clothes with cool water
โ€ข placing cool packs around them.

HEAT WAVE ALERT
With the incoming heat wave don't forget to check in with isolated or venerable family and friends and encourage them to register for the Australian Red Cross TeleRedi service.

During the hot weather, please remember to check-in with vulnerable or isolated loved ones and encourage them to register for the Australian Red Cross TeleRedi service.

We activate the service during a declared , which sees registered people called daily to ensure theyโ€™re coping with the extreme weather. If a call goes unanswered or if someone is in distress, an emergency procedure is activated to ensure their safety and wellbeing.

TeleRedi supports people who may be more vulnerable during extreme heat, including those who live alone, older people, people with disability, mental illness, recovering from illness or injury, and people with ongoing health conditions.

To find out more, call the Red Cross on 1800 188 071 or visit www.redcross.org.au/teleredi/
