The Wild Woman Tribe

The Wild Woman Tribe Real-life, activity-led connection for women in the Yarra Ranges. Low-pressure gatherings where connection forms naturally. No fixing, no forcing.

03/03/2026

Sometimes you arrive somewhere new and you can feel it straight away -
Who’s going to talk first.
Who’s going to sit back.
Who’s quietly scanning the room, deciding if this feels safe enough to land.

Some women speak as soon as they sit down.
Some take a full session to warm up.
Some mostly just listen.

All of that fits here.

Wild Gatherings have never been about being “good at” connection. They’re small, grounded spaces to sit together without performance.

No forced sharing.
No spotlight moments.
Just real-life women, being as they are.

Term 2 Wild Gatherings are opening soon.
If it feels like your kind of room, you’re welcome.

The gnocchi arrived warm and soft.
Pumpkin holding its shape.
Pesto pooled slightly at the edge of the plate.

No extra cutlery.
No chips on the side.
Nothing missing.
Nothing needing to be added.

I ate it slowly, straight from the middle.

Anyway.

The bar stool at Northcote Town Hall.

High enough that my feet barely touched the floor.
Sticky in that way old venues are.
Cold through the dress if you stayed still too long.

A house sparkling sweating into its glass.
My favourite wedges hooked around the rung, doing what they always did.
Holding me there.

Waiting has a sound when you let it.
Low.
Unimpressive.
Just the room being a room.

Sometimes, when everything feels very current and very loud,
I go back to that stool.
The height of it.
The pause of it.
How nothing was decided yet.

I sit there for a moment.
Long enough to remember how it felt to be exactly where I was.

Anyway.

Sometimes the hardest part isn’t showing up.
It’s wondering how long you’re meant to stay.

Whether there’s a polite minimum.
Whether leaving early will feel awkward.
Whether coming once accidentally signs you up for something forever.

Mugs ’n Hugs was made with that in mind.

You can come late.
You can leave early.
You can come once, or not again for months.
It’s okay if you just come for one coffee.

Mugs ’n Hugs
Every second Monday of the month

Most nights, the last thing I touch is a small wooden ring holder on my bedside table.

Pointed.
Smooth.

It catches the light from the lamp.

I take my ring off without really looking.
My fingers know where it is.
The wood is warm from the room, not cold.

It doesn’t wobble.
It doesn’t shift when I brush past it.

It just stays.

Anyway.

It was a green Irish rugby jumper.
Heavy.
Too big.

It lived in the wardrobe longer than some people did.
Moved houses.
Sat through phases.
Got worn on nights when I didn’t want comfort that talked back.

It wasn’t sentimental.
It was practical.
Warm.
Unassuming.
Didn’t need explaining.

One night it ended up in the bin.
No pause.
No review.
No sense that anything was missing.

It had been useful.
And then it wasn’t.

Anyway.

You can arrive quiet.

Sit with a warm mug.
Listen more than you talk.
Talk a little, if you want.
No introductions that feel like a performance.
No pressure to be interesting before you’re comfortable.

Mugs ’n Hugs was shaped with introverts in mind.
The kind of gathering where nothing is demanded of you.
Where being a bit reserved isn’t something to push through.
It’s just part of the room.

If that sounds like something you’d feel okay trying,
you’re welcome to come along.

Those clear cups were already on the bench when I arrived.

Waiting.
Before anything had happened.

I notice things early like that.

There was a surprisingly serious conversation at the table about how you put a jumper on.

Not opinions.
Not values.
Just logistics.

Head first, apparently.
Or arms first.

This was stated plainly.
Defended.
Briefly challenged.

Someone demonstrated with their hands.
Someone else shook their head like that explained everything.

The jumper waited on the chair while we talked about it.

My grandparents’ house still hasn’t updated itself in me.

It has new owners now.
Different cars in the driveway.
A front door that opens for someone else.

But inside me, it’s unchanged.
The same weight in the rooms.
The same sense that time moves differently there.

I don’t think about it often.
It just shows up when something in me is looking for steadiness.
When I need somewhere familiar to stand.

Anyway.
