Thanks to the Cooma Ex-Services Club, we are currently offering a $400 discount on our private 8-session Veterans Program to current or former ADF members and their immediate families, who are currently residing in the Snowy Monaro Region. With only 5 subsidised positions available, get in touch today to take advantage of this incredible discount.

Service life doesn’t just impact our veterans. Supporting the spouses and children of veterans is equally as important. Mental health is far more than just the absence of mental illness, and support for mental health can come in many forms. As we like to say here at Helping Hooves, sometimes all you need is a helping hand…or hoof!

After taking some time to slow down and rest, Helping Hooves would like to welcome you all to 2026!

While there are many things we cannot control, how do you want to show up this year? We often focus on what we want to DO, but have you considered who you want to BE? We invite you all to move gently into the year with presence and awareness, and instead of trying to do more each day, to actually do less but with more intention so that 2026 becomes a year of personal growth.

If you'd like to see how we can support you personally, or you're looking for a unique and empowering development program for your team, please get in touch!

We were privileged to have been invited to Soldier On Australia's Spring Reception at Government House last week to launch their 2024-2025 Impact Report, hosted by their Patron-in-Chief, the Governor-General of Australia Her Excellency The Honourable Sam Mostyn.

We are proud to be part of the Soldier On Family, and were grateful for the way that everyone - Her Excellency, the staff at Government House, the Soldier On staff, and all the other guests - embraced our little family in our entirety. Thank you for making us feel so welcome. Our tiny human has now tried out every single chair on the ground floor of Government House! What a special experience.

The Governor General also takes great selfies!!

It is an ongoing privilege to facilitate our half-day introductory programs in partnership with Soldier On Australia. Every session is as unique as the individuals who trust us with their time and experience.

When we let go of our reliance on talking, entire conversations can occur without a word being spoken. Everything in our work is invitational for both the people and the horses, creating space for a shared connection and sense of safety to emerge. If you, or someone you know, would like to explore a different approach to mental and emotional wellbeing, please reach out.

My work may look quite different to what many think of when they, or someone they know, may need support. You do not need to “be a horse-person” or know anything about these beautiful creatures to benefit from everything that Equine Assisted Learning has to offer.

Healing occurs in relationship and requires a sense of safety to be able to work through challenging experiences. For many people struggling with trauma and their mental health, sessions based solely on interactions with other people may present their own challenges and can sometimes feel like an unsafe place for the client. Horses can offer non-judgmental, authentic connection, while also modelling healthy behaviours.

Sometimes we need to hear from others before we take the leap ourselves, so I have generously been given permission to share testimonials from people who have experienced first-hand what we offer here at Helping Hooves.

"Proven: Healing Breakthroughs Backed by Science" is a 9-part docuseries currently airing a limited free premiere. Each episode explores 5 different approaches to healing, often overlooked, perhaps with skepticism, as alternate therapies. Even if we know personally that certain approaches can be highly effective, some people need the science to prove this to be true (especially when it comes to funding!). The 5 approaches recommended in each episode are offered in a countdown fashion, based on things such as efficacy, accessibility, cost, and extent of research. These are not to discredit more traditional approaches, but rather to offer other, often complementary, options for people who might be looking for something different.

Yesterday’s episode was all about healing trauma, and what was the number 1 recommended approach? Nature Based Therapies! They explored the healing power of simply being in nature, breathing, walking barefoot on the earth, surrounded by the natural world (of which we are a part of, rather than separate from!). They then also highlighted the more advanced forms, where a client is guided through their experience by a trained practitioner, with the inclusion of animals adding an even more powerful dimension.

If you or someone you know is struggling and perhaps doesn't feel comfortable with room-based talk therapies, please reach out to see how we can support in a different way.

Incredibly grateful for my partnership with Soldier On Australia and for all they do to support veterans and their families. It is a privilege to facilitate every single one of these sessions, and I continue to be inspired by the way our participants show up with courage, vulnerability and raw authenticity. I must not overlook our very special herd for without them, and their willingness to connect, none of this would be possible.
