From all the staff at Connected Cardiology, we wanted to wish all of our patients a very Merry Christmas!

Please note, our Connected Cardiology Shepparton regional hub will be closing on Christmas Eve (24 December) at 1pm.

We are then only closed on the Public Holidays, and it's business as usual on all the other days as we continue to provide year-round support for heart health in the Goulburn Valley region.

At Connected Cardiology, our team provides regular cardiology clinics at Rumbalara Aboriginal Medical Clinic (Mooroopna) and Njernda Aboriginal Medical Centre (Echuca) ♥️

A key part of Connected’s focus is supporting heart health in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, providing culturally safe, accessible cardiology services closer to home.

The consulting clinics at both services have been very popular and we have recently also commenced an echocardiography service at Njernda in Echuca, providing accessible heart testing, locally.

We’re deeply grateful to the Aboriginal Health Workers & Practitioners, nurses, community drivers and administrative staff at Rumbalara and Njernda, who guide and support us in delivering care that truly meets the needs of the local community.

Together, we are making steps toward closing the heart health gap ♥️💛🖤

“A “normal” day? That’s a tricky one, because in healthcare, no two days are ever the same!

But that’s exactly what makes it so engaging. In my role, I’m involved in both the clinical and administrative sides of the practice, which gives me a front-row seat to the dedication and compassion our team brings to patient care.

I oversee daily operations, help our staff navigate challenges, and am always looking for ways to improve systems so both our patients and team have the best experience possible.

💙 Understanding Takotsubo Cardiomyopathy 💙

Takotsubo or “stress” cardiomyopathy is a sudden, temporary weakening of the heart muscle. It often happens after a period of intense stress or illness and can feel very similar to a heart attack, with chest pain, breathlessness, and changes on heart tests.

Unlike most heart attacks, the arteries are usually not blocked, and in many cases the heart muscle recovers over days to weeks. However, it’s a serious condition that needs hospital care, close monitoring and follow-up with a cardiologist.

𝗛𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝗼𝗳 𝗮𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘀?

Getting breathless very easily? Or unusually tired?

These aren’t the inevitable result of getting older. They could be symptoms of aortic stenosis.

Aortic stenosis is an age-related condition that makes the heart valves narrow and stiff. That stops the valves opening and closing properly, meaning the heart can’t pump blood around the body effectively. Left untreated, aortic stenosis can lead to heart failure.

Because aortic stenosis may show only vague symptoms (or none at all), it’s easily missed. GPs can identify possible aortic stenosis by listening to the heart with a stethoscope but an echocardiogram is needed to be sure.

The right treatment depends on how narrow or stiff the valve has become, as well as age and general health. Regular examinations and echocardiograms may be needed to monitor the condition and provide supportive treatment.

A cardiologist will advise on the most suitable treatment.*

We’re happy to announce that Dr Rahil Moriswala is now providing regular support to patients in the Goulburn Valley region - with in person visits to the Shepparton Regional Hub as well as regular telehealth clinics supported by staff at the Hub.

Rahil greatly enjoys regional outreach clinics, which he provides regularly from his base in Adelaide. He has spent time in Perth, Melbourne, Sunshine Coast and even as far north as Townsville.

He has completed a fellowship in interventional cardiology, before turning his focus towards cardiac imaging and also maintains a current research role at Flinders Medical Centre.

Rahil believes in a person-centred approach with a strong emphasis on effective communication and patient education.

Outside of medicine, he enjoys a variety of hobbies including woodworking, hiking and exploring nature, accompanied by his dog.

We’re very glad to welcome Rahil to Shepparton for his visits! His telehealth clinics add additional continuity for patients as well as earlier access for patients living in the Goulburn Valley region.
