"Everything can be taken from a person but one thing: the last of the human freedoms — to choose one’s attitude in any given set of circumstances."
Quote: Viktor Frankl, Man’s Search for Meaning

Even in the moments we feel powerless, there remains a small space within us that cannot be taken, the space where choice still lives.

For many trauma survivors, that choice doesn’t come easily, when the nervous system is overwhelmed, “choice” often disappears and survival takes over.

Healing is the gradual process of widening that space again…

✨ so we can respond, not just react.
✨ so we can find meaning, even in pain.
✨ so we can reclaim freedom, even in small ways.

Through therapy and nervous system healing, we begin to widen our window of tolerance, expanding our capacity to stay grounded and present even when life feels intense. That’s where growth and freedom live: in the gentle widening of that moment when the body remembers it has a choice.

💫 Recognising and Letting Go of Survival Patterns

Our nervous system is wired for survival, it learns what kept us safe before and repeats it automatically.

These patterns often show up without us realising, quietly shaping the way we move through the world.

You might notice yourself:
• Avoiding conflict, because safety once meant staying quiet.
• People-pleasing, because belonging once meant keeping everyone happy.
• Over-functioning or needing control, because certainty once kept chaos away.
• Shutting down or disconnecting, because numbness once reduced the pain.

These aren’t flaws or weaknesses.
They’re protective responses, the body’s way of saying, “I’ve been here before, and this is how I survived.”

Healing begins when we recognise these patterns with compassion rather than shame.

With gentle awareness, curiosity, and support, we can teach the nervous system that safety no longer has to mean survival - it can mean peace, rest, connection, and presence. 🌿

✨ Listening to the Inner Child ✨

When we begin to notice the wounds of our inner child, a new question arises: what does that part of me actually need?

Often, the inner child carries unmet needs for safety, love, validation, or simply to be seen. Healing is not about “fixing” the child within us, it’s about creating a safe relationship with them now.

You might begin by asking yourself:
• What feelings is this younger part holding?

• What words of comfort would they want to hear that they didn’t hear as a child?

• What gentle actions today could show them they are safe and cared for?

• What action can I take now that meets a need that wasn’t met then?

✨ Imagine or visualise your inner child and you, the adult, meeting that need now. Or, if you have a photo of yourself as a child, spend a moment speaking to that younger version with the kindness and reassurance they longed for.

Each time you respond with kindness and compassion instead of criticism, you offer your inner child the gift of healing. Step by step, you re-write the story they once believed about themselves - a story that was never true in the first place. 🙏🩷🙏🩷

✨ Healing the Inner Child ✨
When we experience trauma, parts of us, often our younger, more vulnerable selves, can carry the pain and unmet needs from those moments. These “inner child wounds” may show up in adulthood as fear, shame, people-pleasing, or feeling unworthy or not deserving of love and safety.

The good news is: healing is possible. 🌱

By gently connecting with and listening to these younger parts of ourselves, we can begin to offer the compassion, safety, and care that may have been missing.

Healing isn’t about “getting over it.” It’s about walking with these tender parts, allowing them to feel seen, heard, and valued. Over time, this process brings greater wholeness, self-trust, and freedom.

💜 When we understand our inner child wounds, we create space for safety, growth, and integration. Healing begins when we listen to the whispers of our inner child and offer the love and compassion that was once missing. 💕🙏

Healing is not about “just getting over it.”
Trauma isn’t stored like everyday memories. Neuroscience shows trauma is held in the body as implicit memory, the sensations, emotions, and nervous system reactions that surface even when the mind says, “it’s over.” That’s why we can’t simply think our way past trauma.

Healing happens by creating safety, slowly working through these body-held experiences, and allowing the brain and nervous system to process and integrate what once felt overwhelming.

Healing is possible. It’s not about erasing the past, it’s about finding a way forward, step by step. 🩷🙏

🌿 Self-care isn’t just green smoothies and gym sessions…
Sometimes the most powerful forms of self-care are the ones people don’t talk about:
✨ Saying no without guilt.
✨ Letting yourself rest without “earning it.”
✨ Unfollowing accounts that drain your energy.
✨ Speaking kindly to yourself.
✨ Setting healthy boundaries with family and friends.
✨ Asking for help when you need it.
✨ Choosing peace over people-pleasing.
✨ Giving yourself permission to take up space and be heard.
✨️ Eating healthy
✨️ Taking 3 deep slow breaths before making a decision

Self-care isn’t a luxury, it’s a necessity. It’s the practice of tending to your own wellbeing so that you can thrive, not just survive. 🙏🙏🙏

Healing isn’t about rushing into old wounds. Just like a seed needs nourishing soil, our healing needs the ground of safety. When our present circumstances feel safe enough, the body and mind can begin to trust and only then does true growth and healing become possible.

Behind ‘I’m fine’ can be both the stories we don’t share and the feelings we quietly push aside. 💜 Healing begins when we pause and gently notice what we’re truly feeling inside.

Take one minute to pause, tune into your body, and gently ask: What is my body feeling right now?
