The streets of Shepparton lit up just after midnight yesterday/

But not from streetlights – from the glow of a white Holden ute tearing through town with its headlights off, cops in hot pursuit, and two blokes on a joyride that went way past stupid.

Around 12.45am, the ute was spotted flying down Wyndham Street, allegedly stolen out of Altona the week before.

Cops tried to pull it over, but the driver wasn’t having it. Instead, he killed the lights and punched it, heading south like a ghost on wheels.

Down the Goulburn Valley Highway they went, the speedo creeping up towards 160 kph through Kialla West – no headlights, no licence, no sense.

Police played it cool, calling in backup and setting a trap.

Near the Broadford on-ramp to the Hume, the road finally bit back – a tyre deflation spike laid across the asphalt, and bang.

The Holden didn’t make it another kilometre. The chase was over. Two fellas were dragged out before the rubber stopped smoking.

A 29-year-old now faces a rap sheet that reads like a criminal grocery list: reckless conduct endangering life, dangerous driving, vehicle theft, m**h and w**d possession, failing to stop, driving unlicensed, and using an unregistered vehicle.

He’s been remanded to front Shepparton Magistrates’ Court, while his 24-year-old passenger copped a charge for m**h possession and scored bail. He’ll face court in January.

One stolen Holden, one busted chase, and two blokes who thought they could outrun the blue lights. They found out the hard way – the highway always wins.

Shepparton cops must’ve thought they were filming an episode of World’s Dumbest Criminals yesterday.

A rideshare driver’s chilling in his Nissan at Northumberland Crescent, when suddenly a 15-year-old dollar-store gangster whips out a knife from the back seat.

Then his 18-year-old mate lobs up on foot to join the circus. They threaten the driver, a scuffle breaks out, and before you know it, the car’s nicked.

The victim’s shaken but fine, which is more than you can say for these two young fellas.

Their grand escape? Lasted barely an hour. Cops found them at Seymour Railway Station. They tried to leg it, but were chased down quicker than Centrelink on an overpayment.

Now here’s the kicker. The 15-year-old’s been charged with aggravated carjacking, already on bail, and a “post and boast” charge.

Because apparently nicking cars isn’t enough, you’ve gotta flex online like a true TikTok tough guy.

Meanwhile, his 18-year-old partner in crime got slapped with the same, plus unlicensed driving.

Shepparton’s streets lit up with blue and red disco lights recently – not from a party, but from cops pulling over more cooked drivers than a Bunnings sausage sizzle.

Across four frosty nights, local police from Shepparton, Mooroopna, and the Highway Patrol hit the roads, targeting boozed-up bellends, cooked units, and blokes who reckon a licence is just a suggestion.

And boy, they didn’t disappoint. Out of just 19 drug tests, two drivers tested positive.

One was a Mooroopna bloke aged in his late 40s, who managed to have both m**h and w**d in his system. He scored a $593 fine and a six-month sit-out.

Then came Cobram’s contribution – an unlicensed genius who tested positive for ice and had fake number plates. His car got impounded, and he’ll too be facing court.

Not to be outdone, three cheeky drink drivers were also caught out. One of them even blew double the legal limit, with Shepp cops saying they’ll be back at it again soon.

Tragedy struck in Shepparton on Thursday night, as Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives continue to piece together the events leading to a devastating fatal crash.

Just before 11pm, a green Ford Falcon sedan was heading south along Wyndham Street when it struck a pedestrian near the intersection of Rea Street. By the time help showed up, it was already too late – death had beaten them to it.

The pedestrian – a man believed to be in his 30s – died at the scene. As of Friday night, his identity remained unconfirmed. The driver, a man in his mid-20s from Tatura, immediately stopped and remained at the scene. He was taken to hospital under police guard.

Police have since interviewed him and released him pending further enquiries, as investigators work to unravel exactly what occurred. They’re urging anyone who witnessed the Ford Falcon’s movements – or those of the pedestrian – to come forward.

Agriculture Victoria veterinarians and animal health staff are responding to the detection of anthrax on a property in the Shepparton region – where five cows have died.

Following the report last week, the property was quarantined, and all cows on the affected property have been injected. Neighbouring properties have also been informed.

Victoria's Chief Veterinary Officer, Graeme Cooke, said due to early reporting by the impacted farmer and veterinarians, swift action was able to reduce the likelihood of the detection impacting more cows.
