The Shepparton Cycling Club would like to wish Isla Shaw all the very best as she lines up in the U17W category this weekend in Darebin, at the 2026 AusCycling x Fairbrother U11–U17 Track State Championships 🚴‍♀️🔥

Isla will be contesting the Time Trial, Individual Pursuit, and Sprint — three demanding events that test both power and speed.

Behind every start line is hours of dedication, discipline and hard work. Isla has put in a huge training block leading into these Championships, with the valued guidance and support of SCC Life Member Steve Fairless and Club President Brett Lancaster. Their experience and mentorship continue to help shape our next generation of riders, and it’s fantastic to see that work paying off on the state stage.

We’re incredibly proud to see Isla representing the club. Ride hard, race smart, and soak up the experience — your SCC family is right behind you! 💪💚

The "second heart" refers to the calf muscle pump, a mechanism in the lower legs that aids venous blood return to the heart.

When calf muscles contract during movement, they compress veins, pushing blood upward against gravity. This action, supported by one-way valves in the veins, prevents blood from pooling in the legs.

Regular movement, like walking or exercising, keeps this pump active, reducing the risk of blood clots, which can form when blood stagnates.

Prolonged immobility, such as during long flights or bed rest, can impair this pump, increasing clot risk. Staying active is crucial for maintaining healthy circulation.
