The Urban Cottage is moving into a slower, quieter season.
I wasn’t built for algorithms, trend hopping, ‘post the last video you took and call it B-roll’ aesthetic, big sales with no margins, and subconscious pushy marketing language. It’s an energetic exchange, posting something online, me leaving a part of myself as content to be ‘consumed’ and for a while now I have felt an imbalance but have tried to ignore it, despite the exhaustion it causes.
I’ve not been able to put a name to what I’ve been feeling and so pushed through it for years. Damn. While there is still good here, there are still people showing up, it is not the community it used to be, the one I called home, the one where I found the most beautiful souls to connect to in a way that I could never have stumbled across in any other way. I feel so lucky, but this doesn’t feel like home anymore and burn out is something you just cannot quick fix or push through. I’m going to have to choose rest and deeply nourish what has become an incredibly depleted nervous system
In gardening terms, the once fertile soil of the cottage has been stripped of its nutrients, there’s no point planting anything right now because it just won’t flourish. Now is a time to winter the garden beds, cover them with a generous topping of mulch and leave them to rest until they’re ready to hold seeds again, a process that can’t have a timeline. I will know. I love this business, the ability to create, and the people that are drawn to what I do too much to finish up completely, but I am sick of trying to show up and not being able to provide value, to have fun, and feel rewarded by it. It’s not fair on you, either. You deserve to be nourished by the cottage too.
While there won’t be any social media posts, marketing, or emails during this quieter season, the website will remain open with a reduced range. There may be a few markets I attend this year if they’re in alignment. And I will remain open to receiving wholesale orders. Email me for wholesale enquiries or orders, and the best way to contact me in general for everyone else will be by email as well.
