Rural women!!! 🥳🥳🥳 May we be one OR be blessed to have one (or many) in our lives!

Happy International Rural Women’s Day! If you are a women living in a rural or regional area this is your day to celebrate your wonderfulness and the VITAL role you play in your community!

For me, this woman (pictured), my Mum, is the epitome of a rural woman. She is the absolute heart of her rural community. Her life’s work is her garden, her horses and animals, working on and caring for the land she has grown up on, her family, friends, local school kids and her community.

Making cuppas and buttering rice cakes twice daily and taking them up to the paddock, constantly cooking for her friends and looking after (and adoring) neighbours kids, working part time in the local school, teaching kids how to make worm farms and veggie gardens are just the start of how she shows up everyday for her rural community.

Her ability to listen to our latest troubles and triumphs at the kitchen table is one of her greatest gifts. She is wise of soul, but at the same time, young at heart. She has that carefree, yet feisty spirit that rural women have! She will stand up to the best of them, but be able to laugh at herself in the process. Strong, resilient, hard working, caring and FUN!!!

She gave my brothers and I the gift of an example of a strong, amazing women, plus passed on her love of the Bush to us all. And now she is introducing OUR kids to the wonder of rural life. A gift I am eternally grateful for.

She is the utmost salt of the earth and if I can give Ollie an example like that, then I will have done well in life.

And.... ...all examples of incredible rural women who I feel grateful to know and admire! Plus the many others who are not on insta, and my beautiful clients who I truly love and adore!

Who is a rural women you need to celebrate today?!

After two breastfeeds, several major screaming battles, 20 mins of The Wiggles, many attempts to feed her on my lap (while I shovelled in some breakfast of my own), Bluey, and lots of 'tuddles' she finally isn’t a backwards screaming mess when I put her in the high chair to eat her breaky.... 😆 (😢)

NOURISH
I can’t tell you the satisfaction it brings me to pick lively, deep green veg from my garden, cook it up and eat it up, for a dose of nutrient dense love. A gift from the fertile soil (I worked hard to create!) and the sun ☀️

The tantrum that happened when Ollie went to take another lick only to realise there were no licks left, is a testimony to how good it is 😉

Really feeling the resistance today!

After completing Month One of my Big Life Challenge, and cutting out refined sugar from my diet, I move into Month Two of the challenge today.

I’m going to announce in my stories what it is later today (hint, one of those vital basics that can be very easy to ignore when you get busy/hope for the best that you will be ok without it...!)

But today it’s become apparent that I’m feeling SOOO resistant to jumping on board with this one.

Previous experience and everything I have learnt on this journey of a big happy life has taught me that when something is out of our immediate comfort zone, our fearful primitive lizard brain tells us NOOOOOO! Protect yourself! Stay hidden! Stay comfy!!!!

But I have ALSO learnt that the good stuff happens when you push yourself out of that comfortable little nest you made on the couch, and DELVE IN! Show up for yourself in the way that you know you deserve!

This may involve being very vulnerable.

It may be incredibly uncomfortable

It may feel inconvenient

But if you have done the ‘thinking’ and know deep in your gut that it’s the best way forward, then it’s worth every bit of the initial cringe.

And once you have done it once.... made that first awkward dive off the diving board, and sprung into showing up for you.... I mean, money can’t buy that feeling.

What do you know you need to plunge yourself into this week, in order to be the best most happy version of you?

Whatever it is, be brave, and be a master of your own mind! (The advice I need right in this moment 🤣)

LOVE JESSIE ☀️

Over my life I have had many times when I lived by this and many times when I have not.

But it was always the times that I lived with having a deep reverent faith in my own good self that propelled me into a better, bigger, happier human being.

And one who is more satisfied with how things are.

Never be afraid to back yourself. You know what you are doing. It’s just often hard to hear your own voice above the other noises.

Sugar free, gluten free, but not taste free!!! 😋

During my sugar challenge this month I have been pushed to expand my cooking knowledge and routines, and cooks with ingredients I have never used before!

And it can be...
1. Hard to push myself to make a new recipe the first time
2. A bit more effort to look for different ingredients when we are shopping
3. Also a bit more effort to look for good recipes that are easy to make and easy to incorporate into the routine

BUT every time I make something once, it is then so much easier to make the second time (once the fear of the unknown that we humans are so allergic to is removed). Plus it usually tastes better and is better for me and my family! And if we love it, it is then something that we can incorporate into our routine to set ourselves up for thriving not surviving.

If you are a bit stick in area or diet or lifestyle, health coaches like me can make it so much easier. It is someone by your side on your health journey! I am full of resources, tips, practical knowledge and know how. Because I have done so much of it before, in my own life, on my own healing journey, and I have helped so many others as a coach!

Pictured is an incredible apple pie that I made for dessert on the weekend. Super easy to make the pastry and filling, and delicious with a good dollop of coconut yoghurt, or homemade ice cream!

This quote changed how I saw myself. As a woman, as a daughter, as a mum, as a friend, as a teacher, as a wife and as a member of the community.

Forever grateful for brave and courageous women such as Ruth Bader Ginsburg. For being a trailblazer, a courageous force for good, even though it must have been incredibly uncomfortable at times. Rest In Peace. Your legacy is a huge piece of this awakening.

4 for $5!!! Strawberry Jam time! 🍓

1 cup strawberries
1 cup water
2 spoons chia seeds (more if you want it thicker)
2 spoons maple syrup

Blend it all up, put it in a saucepan and bring to the boil, turn down the heat, and whisk like crazy for a few minute until it thickens. Put in jars. I sometimes freeze it in ice cube trays

Dollop on porridge, pancakes or with yogurt for a quick dessert. Or eat it from straight from the pot as pictured here 👶🤣

So.many.names.for.sugar.

Food companies sometimes have to get creative when it comes to their labels. The reason why? They know consumers increasingly don’t want to see the word sugar, but keeping it in in some form makes their product so much more addictive. So we keep buying it.

This can be a helpful guide when cutting out sneaky sugars in the products you buy. Image from the That Sugar Guide, the second in the amazing series by Damon and Zoe Gameau

They also have an app called That Sugar App if you are interested in finding out how much sugar are in your innocent looking favourite products.

Question: have you struggled in the past to give up the following... 🍩 🍫 🍦

Do you notice a similar pattern of always returning to old favourites even though you know they don’t serve you/make you fatter/make you cranky/mess with your digestion/make your skin saggy etc etc...

And an even more important question...Have you felt like a failure that you can’t just stop at one scotch finger? A hopeless mess because you keep going back to the fridge and breaking off another row of chocolate. Or perhaps what started out as a piece of slice being a joyous pleasure with a cuppa in the sun has become a source of shame, embarrassment and bewilderment, as you polish off the whole tin in two days.

The thing with sugar, (and many other things) is that there is very often an emotional element at play. If you have struggled to give up sugary food you know doesn’t serve you and have failed repeatedly, I can hazard a guess that you have a strong emotional tie to sugar. I know this to be true because it has very much been my own story with sugar (and other comfort foods).

And here’s a bit of science to throw in the mix... Sugar releases the same opioids in the brain as love does. Can you start to see that you are not a failure? There is just more to learn.

I have come to believe that sugar addiction, or when you are recognising that you are stuck in a negative pattern with sugar, a heady mix of science and emotion is at play.

On one side, the brain is craving a shot of love hormone, and on the other your pattern for coping with difficult or uncomfortable emotion has been to reach for the iced vovos. The vovos are helping you feel an extra bit of love, PLUS helping you numb from something else going on that has made you feel a bit sh*te! (Then throw a global pandemic into the mix, with people suffering from isolation from their communities...! )

If you feel that the patterns above describe you in any way, know you are not alone. I know these feelings first hand, as do most of my clients.

Looking at the reasons behind why we eat sugar in a gentle, curious way with a hearty dose of compassion in the mix is key in breaking the (subconscious) habits for good.

Our Story

Big Life Project is all about creating more health and happiness in the world. Here are BLP, we believe that food changes everything, but also that the road to glowing health runs deeper than just looking at what goes into your mouth.

Big Life Project is a holistic health coaching service. In holistic healthcare, we look at how all aspects of your life work together to create the life you are living. Food, water, sleep, rest, adventure, joy, stress, gut health, hormonal health, blood sugar levels, fitness, relationships, career, passion and purpose, creativity, education, home environment...If you are not having much success in one area, chances are that there is a flow on (negative) effect in other major areas of your life.

Big Life Projects’ main focus is private health coaching. If you think health coaching may benefit you, the first step is to sign up for a free Health History Consultation. We sit for 45 minutes and talk about all your health concerns. From there, if you decide to move forward, you sign up for a Three Month Program. The cost is $580 (a discount if you pay upfront).

Within this program, we sit down together 6 times over three months. We talk through your health concerns, with the aim of understanding where you are going wrong, and where you need support. AND most importantly we take action. You transform your health, with the support of a professional on the side, cheering you on! I give you heaps of amazing resources based at your specific needs, and you are able to attend workshops on offer at BLP, over the three months, for free. Plus you are connected to a thriving network of people who are passionate about living their best lives. This is transformational stuff, so if you are feeling stuck or a despairing in the area of your health, sign up for a free Health History today. One conversation could change your life for the better.
