We employ over 420 full time, part time and casual staff working in three locations - Tarcoola Village, Rodney Park Village and Kialla Gardens Village. We accommodate more than 350 residents in our Independent Living Units and care for 271 people across our three sites.

Keith Morton has seen a lot of things in 100 years of living. He’s lived in three States, travelled widely, and played golf in some of the world’s most interesting locations including one very special visit to the National Golf Club in Augusta Georgia, home of the US Masters.
He’s held demanding career roles in mechanical engineering, industrial design and management, and helped to bring up two daughters. He even did a stint of football umpiring back in the day, presiding over a VFA Grand Final in 1956. He has far too many stories to tell for any one Facebook post! And maybe that’s to be expected - you can pack a hell of a lot into 100 years.
Keith misses his late wife Valda who passed away in 2014. Valda suffered from difficult health in her final years, sadly. But in general Keith recognises that he’s lived a fortunate life indeed, including many travel and golfing adventures he enjoyed with Val over the years. Another aspect of his good fortune was an exemption from war service granted during World War Two. Despite wanting to be a pilot he’d been exempted from service due to the critical nature of his work at that time for the Government Aircraft Factories in Maribyrnong.
To this day Keith remains a lively conversationalist and takes pride in remaining “intellectually in good shape”.
Last week brought an enjoyable lunch with one of his daughters and family, and lots of well-wishing from fellow residents at Mooroopna Place, where he has lived for the past three years. Keith is warmly congratulated here by Facility Manager David Shipston, one of his many local admirers. Here’s to 100 years well lived!

Such a festive time!
Residents and staff at Maculata Place have been getting into the spirit of Diwali, Festival of Lights, with some sweet treats and beautiful south Asian attire on show this week.
Their celebrations come hot on the heels of the success of another fabulous big onsite event, CARNIVAL, held last week at Mooroopna Place. A few pictures of both are shown here.
And out at Banksia Lodge, their fabulous dinky-di Australia Week is continuing as well. (See our post yesterday.)
For those on the mailing list for our monthly CEO Newsletter, watch out for lots more pics of all of these colourful events in the next edition. It's been all go for Shepp Villages on the festive front!

Let there be light!
Residents at Shepparton Villages’ Banksia Lodge are letting it rip this week with an Australia Week celebrating all things Aussie Aussie Aussie – including meat pies, chips and some very energetic “beach volleyball” played today between Team Kangaroo and Team Koala!
And it just so happens that it's coinciding with a very ancient festival widely celebrated across South and South East Asia called Diwali (and Deepavali and Tihar and one or two other things depending on where you come from).
Many Shepparton Villages staff come from cultural backgrounds in which Diwali – the Hindu Festival of Lights - is one of the biggest events of the year, celebrated with candles and lanterns, sweet treats, social gatherings and spiritual reflection.
So: What to do when it's all happening at once?? Well, you can enjoy the best of both worlds, of course!
Shown here is today’s (surprisingly competitive!) beach party volleyball under way at Banksia Lodge, while nearby in the staff room team members take a moment to hold up candles and share some Diwali spirit around as well.
PS. STAY TUNED FOR SOME MORE SPECIAL DIWALI MOMENTS TOMORROW!

According to the United Nations, today - 1 October - is the International Day of Older Persons: a day on which the rights and contributions of older people are acknowledged and celebrated. And good on the UN for highlighting this subject. We endorse it fully.
For the record, at Shepparton Villages we think EVERY day is a day to celebrate older persons!
(Whether or not they are leaning over a walking stick in the way the UN logo shows.)
So... let's make every day a good day to acknowledge and celebrate our elders. 😄

Meeting, meetings, meetings!
Too many sometimes, it seems.
But some are more important than others.
This year, the Annual General Meeting of Shepparton Villages will be held on Tuesday 28 October, 5.30pm, at the Activities Centre, Batman Avenue, Tarcoola Village. The AGM is an opportunity for those interested to learn about the key issues of the year and actions taken.
It is also an opportunity for eligible individuals to nominate themselves or others to serve on the Board for the coming term.
Make a note for your diary if you are interested in attending.
And if you are interested in nomination to the board, please contact EA@sheppvillages.com.au for further information. Nominations must be made in writing by 5pm Friday 5 September.
(Photo spread shows various kinds of meeting, both formal and informal, that are a regular part of our life at Shepparton Villages: sharing information, receiving feedback, making important connections - and remembering that listening as at least as important as talking!)

A brilliant blast from Scotland!
With icy winds and rain sweeping across Greater Shepparton today, what could be better than a Scotland themed day of Armchair Travel at Shepparton Villages? Residents, staff and visitors enjoyed a variety of different Scottish themed activities today (indoors, fortunately!) including games at all three of our aged care facilities - Maculata Place, Mooroopna Place and Banksia Lodge - and talented guest performers stopping by at two locations. Well attended by residents (in fact, standing room only at Maculata near the end) , and with lots of toes left a' tapping, most in attendance felt a whole lot warmer by the end of it all. Thanks to all the wonderful contributors today.
(We'll have more to say and more images to show in our next CEO Newsletter, for those who receive it!)

It's a day to say THANK-YOU!
Today is Aged Care Employees Day, and across Shepparton Villages people have been celebrating the occasion in various ways - including delicious cake for afternoon tea and some fun photo dress-ups (both at Maculata Place), some tokens of appreciation given to all staff, and the unveiling of 'Wellness Tables' in staff rooms at each of our three facilities.
Amongst items on the tables today were bowls of fresh fruit and one or two other (not-quite-so-healthy!) treats. The special day was marked in different ways at each of our three villages, but the underlying message was the same across all: THANK YOU to all the wonderful staff and helpers who get so much done each day and make such a difference in the lives of our residents. It's noticed, and it's appreciated.
(Photos show team members enjoying afternoon tea and dress-ups at Maculata Place, and showing off fruit-laden Wellness Tables at Banksia Lodge and Mooroopna Place.)

Flying high!
July was a bumper month for activities and events right across Shepparton Villages, with highlights including 'Armchair Travel' to locations including Denmark and South Africa, across all three aged care sites, and a Wild West theme day at Mooroopna Place.
Residents, staff and visitors found themselves doing a few things they might never have imagined - including African bead-making, participating in African and Danish cooking, and, of course, saddling up some (imaginary but fun) horses!
And what better way to stay active and fight those Winter blues?
Well done to all who took part, including our inspirational Lifestyle & Leisure teams.

It's Birthday Wishes 101!
And by 101, we mean 101 YEARS.
Big congratulations to Jean Threlfall, resident at Maculata Place, for reaching the magic number the other day. She celebrated with fellow residents and family members including her sister-in-law Margaret, who coincidentally is also a resident at Maculata. Jean is known for having a twinkle in the eye and being a good participator in regular events and activities held at Maculata when she can, including friendly chatting this week with a school group that dropped by. But on her special birthday it was fabulous to see her being the 'event' and centre of attention herself! Happy birthday Jean.

Happy 50th - to young and old!
A friendly shout-out to those members of the Shepparton community involved in NAIDOC Week celebrations of various kinds from Sunday 6 July through to Sunday 13 July. Each year NAIDOC Week celebrates all aspects of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and heritage. This year – the 50th - has a particular focus on the future, with the theme: “The Next Generation: Strength, Vision and Legacy.”
(Ever wondered what NAIDOC actually stands for? It’s National Aboriginal and Islanders Day Observance Committee, the name of the body which originally organised events in support of a national day of awareness. The acronym evolved to become the name of a whole week of celebration. Our corner of regional Australia, home to the Yorta Yorta and Bangerang peoples, has historically been prominent in NAIDOC advocacy.)

Banksia Lodge resident Hazel Donald turned a glorious 102 the other day. Yes, that's right - 102!
She celebrated with extended family over the weekend, and her neighbours have since seen a steady flow of other visitors coming and going - including a crew today dropping by from the Shepparton News.
Hazel was born in Numurkah, spent her early life on a farm just outside Katamatite, and ultimately settled in Shepparton where, amongst other things, she worked for 24 years in a butcher shop. There were periods spent living away in Melbourne, but the call of Shepparton always remained strong. Hazel didn't marry, though she and her older sister Dorothy - who had five children - were inseparably close throughout life and Hazel says she's done a good share of family child-rearing in her time!
In later years, Hazel and Dorothy went from living in their late parents' Shepparton home to a new life at Kialla Gardens, and ultimately to the adjacent Banksia Lodge. Dorothy passed on some years ago, while Hazel continues to live well and gracefully in 2025, seemingly unruffled by the ups and downs of what has been such a long and eventful life. Congratulations Hazel!
(Photos show Hazel this week at Banksia Lodge, and in younger days with sister Dorothy. Hazel is on right.)

Many hands make light work...
The wonderful members of our Lifestyle & Leisure teams are normally so busy making great activities happen for aged care residents across three different sites that they rarely get the chance to meet up and compare notes with each other.
But this week's an exception. They came together for a workshop yesterday at Tarcoola Village to talk about shared challenges and to consult with colleagues in other departments about further raising the profile of what they do.
One of the exciting developments on the horizon is a reinvigorated drive for volunteers to join the outings and activities that make such a positive difference in the lives of those who participate. Each of our sites tailors its activity programs to what its own resident body shows most interest in. And while this can vary from site to site, there's one thing everyone agrees on: The more who get on board the merrier!
