So I often get asked in clinic why I became a Remedial Massage Therapist, so here goes....
When I was about 7 months pregnant with baby number 4 and the twins were 18 months old, we realized that their speech patterns were not developing as planned. As it turned out one in particular had a nasty tongue tie which was also causing issues with his eating we had initially put down to “his individual quirks”. We were referred through a friend to an amazing chiropractor who had a specialized interest in this type of condition as well as babies and children in general and so began a course of treatment which later expanded onto the rest of his body and then further onto the rest of the family. Very soon we were taking over her clinic with family sized appointments.
It was through these treatments that we were performing regularly that I reignited an interest and passion for the body. I wanted to know how it worked, why it worked like it did and why these problems had been developing in my kids and other people around me. So yeah, I was hooked. By that time I was a Mum of four and the idea of managing that full household and returning to a full fledged university degree to become a chiropractor or the likes expanding over the length of my children’s childhood didn't seem plausible. What had really interested me however was a Diploma in Remedial Massage. It was something, with a little organizing and help from surrounding family, we decided we could manage.
I maintained a solid interest in infant and child development throughout my course, and upon completion of my Diploma (and thanks to a beautiful Christmas gift from my husband) continued on to become a Certified Infant Massage Instructor so that I can share my interest and passion for children’s health and development with other parents and caregivers.
