My dad Jack Fleming passed away on 6 Feb at hawks nest retirement home .
He lived a full life . Born in England and living through the war times in Manchester ,being awarded a scholarship to william Hulme grammar school , playing school lacrosse for Lancashire and then joining the army going to Germany and being selected for the intelligence corps Mi6 .
He later joined the northern Rhodesia police force now Zambia where he met my mum , Thea . They didn’t have much but they had great friends and community .
They later moved to South Africa . His highlight was owning a printing business where they met many people and it enabled them to part own a share in house at Mabula game reserve . One of my dad’s greatest loves was Taking the Land Rover for game drives and some scary moment when he would do a three point turn a bit too close to rhinos .
They moved to Australia in 1997 and were embraced by the town . Mum and dad participated in many community activities and loved living in Singleton .
He was an avid cricket watcher, mad about soccer Manchester city - his blood ran blue, loved jazz music , he was witty , smart great sense if humour but just not a great handyman though .
Thank you to all the people that cared for him over the years , neighbours , friends that visited and especially the staff at Singleton hospital in his long extended visits , ourcare carers that took him shopping and allowed him his independence and the lastly the kind and caring staff at hawks nest retirement home that doted on him in his final days as he imparted words of wisdom to them . He had a life well lived and as a cricket lover a great innings “going out “at 94 was a great achievement .
