✨ Super stoked to receive my Eating Disorder Credential from ANZAED ✨

🌻The credential is awarded as an initiative by the Australian and New Zealand Academy of Eating Disorders (ANZAED) and the National Eating Disorders Collaborative (NEDC) to provide carers and people living with an eating disorder timely access to experienced and appropriately trained health professionals, which in turn increases effectiveness of treatment and reduces duration and severity of the illness.

✅ This credential formally recognises I have met the qualifications, knowledge, training and professional development activities required to meet minimum delivery standards of safe and effective eating disorder treatment.

🧐 Other credentialed health professionals including psychologists, psychiatrists, GP’s, social workers and occupational therapists can be found via the Connect.Ed national database at https://connected.anzaed.org.au/treatmentproviders/

⏰ If you or someone you know is affected by an eating disorder (or showing signs of developing one) timely intervention is crucial. Please reach out today for non-judgmental and empathetic support.

🌺 Regular eating in eating disorder recovery 🌺

🍴Regularity is hands down the most common topic discussed in session.

Almost always I discover clients are skipping meals in pursuit of weight loss whilst also experiencing relentless thoughts about food, eating beyond fullness and/or binge eating, IBS-type symptoms (constipation, pain, bloating), poor sleep, fatigue and poor concentration.

Often clients don’t realise these are symptoms of restriction and irregular eating.

Re-establishing a regular eating pattern goes a looong way in reducing these symptoms – digestion starts working normally again making it more comfortable to keep progressing through recovery and generally makes you feel butt load better because you’re actually able to concentrate and have enough energy to get on with the day. Not to mention reducing the relentless thoughts about food because you’re giving your body and brain reliable nutrition throughout the day to function well and therefore reduce binge eating later in the day.

The rule of 3’s - 3 meals, 2-3 snacks, roughly 3 hours apart, is your handy regularity guide and the framework on which to build upon towards recovery.

If you’re ready to leave the ED rules behind and move towards recovery book with me at in Brisbane North (Everton Park) or Brisbane West (Sinnamon Park) locations.

Tummy hunger is not the only way your body tells you it's time to eat 🥣

Often I hear clients say they don’t eat because they’re not hungry, when in fact their bodies have provided many signals it’s time to eat.

The feeling of an empty stomach or “hunger pangs” is often the last sign of hunger and at this point likely WAY beyond hungry.

Signs can be different for everyone, but the common ones are (plus many more):

🍓Irritability
🧀Poor concentration (hello 11am coffee run)
🥯Low energy or mood
🍫Persistent thoughts about food
🥕Nausea
🌶Shakiness &/or weakness

Waiting until the empty feeling runs the risk of eating beyond comfort and making poor food choices because you’re actually just super starving and just need to get something in.

When this happens people may even feel guilt or shame because they’re not in control of their eating or start thinking about the next weight-loss diet and restricting food.

But restricting food and ignoring hunger cues is what leads to eating beyond fullness in the first place 🤯

If you need support tuning into hunger and moving toward an intuitive eating pattern, I offer compassionate and judgement-free in-person and telehealth consults at Sinnamon Park, Brisbane.

Bookings online or phone.

Why “normal” eating is like eating like a kid.

At many points in our childhood, adolescent and/or adult years we've been exposed to a whole heap of external noise telling us what and how to eat. No wonder we’re all confused!

🍴Kids eat intuitively based on needs, preferences and availability
🥪They eat regularly and adequately
🍒Don't worry or react if they over eat
🧀Don't think over-think food
🥝Choose food that feel like at that moment
🥨Eat when they're hungry
🧁Stop when they're full

Let's tune back in to our in-born wisdom and eating intuitively - like a kid 👧

If you’re looking to reconnect with “normal” and move toward intuitive eating, a non-diet dietitian can help.

I have in-person and telehealth consultations available at Trilogy Physiotherapy, Sinnamon Park, Brisbane - Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays.

What is Health at Every Size® (HAES®)

There’s a common misconception HAES means anyone can be healthy at any size however this is not the case. It means that health cannot be determined based on weight, shape or BMI.

To truly understand an individual’s health status we need to look more broadly at social, spiritual, economic and emotional heath, not just physical.

We need to measure actual health biomarkers (blood glucose levels and cholesterol for example) and health-enhancing behaviours (food variety and eating enough, regular movement, adequate sleep, stress-reducing activities, socialising and participating in life).

ANY body at ANY size can (and DO) engage in these health-enhancing activities and achieve individualised health and wellness.

❗️Here it is again… body weight does not determine health status.

This is why I adopt a HAES® approach and do not focus on weight-loss.

The 5 key overarching principles to guide practice using this framework:

❤Weight inclusivity
😊Health enhancement
🤝Respectful care
🍓Eating for well-being
🕺Life-enhancing movement
