I hear this from patients a lot. I’m not going to tell anybody to go out of their way to get added sugars into their diet however people conflate sugar with other high calorie foods.

Sugar isn’t magically fattening beyond its calorie content and properties that make it over consumed. when you combine it with starch and salt and fat it becomes much more easily over consumed and adds energy density.

Basically don’t blame sugar by itself blame the overall total energy intake delivered by these foods. This also doesn’t mean these foods are inherently evil. It just means that they are super yummy and easily overconsumed and can lead to energy access which leads to potential weight gain and adiposity and difficulty losing weight. ❤️

SNACKING!

Are you a snacker? Snacks can fit into a healthy lifestyle, with a few considerations to keep in mind. Firstly, think about why you’re snacking:

🍪 It's a habit, such as sweet biscuits with your afternoon cuppa or chips on the couch while watching TV
😕 You’re bored, emotional or stressed, and the snack ‘distracts’ you or fills a void (temporarily!)
🍽 You’ve starving – are you eating nutritious and satisfying meals?

Here are some quick & healthy snack suggestions 👌

What a start we've had to 2022!
Many of us are experiencing disruptions to food supply and availability due to the pandemic. Shopping for groceries can be frustrating and anxiety-inducing. Here are some tips to ease the stress:
* What do you already have in your fridge, freezer and pantry? Making a list can be helpful.
* If you can, try the supermarkets earlier in the day when there is likely to be more stock.
* Do you meal plan? If so, create your meals based on what is available, which may not be your usual and familiar choices.
* If you can't find your preferred meat, try chickpeas, lentils, or tinned beans such as black beans as a protein source.
* Tinned and frozen vegetables can also be nutritious - don't discount them!
* Try your local independent supermarkets, butcher and greengrocer.

Slow cooker Meals

I know the Air Fryer is Mr popularity right now, but I’m still using my trusty slow-cooker at least once a week during winter! Here are 6 reasons I love my slow-cooker:

1. I can turn cheaper cuts of meat into tender, melt-in-your-mouth casseroles, stews and curries (and I can make it even more economical by bulking it out with legumes, such as a tin of chickpeas!)

2. I can throw a bunch of ingredients in the dish before work, turn it on low and return home to a delicious cooked meal (and if I know I’ve got an early start, I can pre-prep the night before, keeping the dish in the fridge and taking it out in the morning!).

3. It works out cheaper and quicker than take-away.

4. It works really well for those days where after-school activities, sports and jobs are CRAZY, and we’re all going in and out at different times. Everyone gets their meal hot, whenever they get home!

5. It uses minimal electricity.

6. It’s a one-pot meal, which means only one bowl to wash up!

What's your favourite slow cooker meal? We love Beef Bourguignon, Butter Chicken and Pulled pork.

There are so many products available these days which claim to promote better gut health.
An easier, cheaper and more practical solution is vegetables! Adding more vegetables into your diet is actually one of the simplest things you can do to improve your gut health (and overall health!).

A varied and colourful vegetable intake promotes a healthy gut microbiota, without the need for expensive supplements or greens powders.

What vegetables are you eating today?

Happy Mother’s Day 🥰

If you’re celebrating Mother’s Day today, I hope you’re having a fabulous day!
Not only did I enjoy delicious coffee and sweets at this morning with my kiddos, but I was gifted an amazing diy cannoli kit as a pay-it-forward from another family who couldn’t enjoy it today. Thank you so much for your generosity kind person and ! Love this wonderful community we live in 😍

Cannoli are my favourite treat and I’m so looking forward to making these with the kids! I’ll be paying this forward too and sharing the cannoli love 😊

If you’re a Sunshine Coast local and haven’t tried it yet, get yourself down to Cafe Sisily at Golden Beach!
