Last week was a HUGE week! And what better way to kick it off than with the opening of the new Wise Repro semen processing lab and bull centre in Glen Aplin!

We have a long standing relationship with the Wise team across Australia 🇦🇺 and this new facility, which completes phase 1 of a 3 phase expansion, is a testament to their dedication and commitment to excellence in reproductive biotechnology for the Australian cattle industry.

It has been our pleasure assisting with the new build and providing the team with some of the latest advancements in semen collection and processing technology available globally.

We look forward to what the future of assisted reproduction looks like in Australia and with facilities such as this, that future is looking bright!

Monday morning repro facts!

⚠️Repro Tract Scoring/Pre Program Scanning – is it worth it?🧐

You may have heard your vet or other industry members speak about pre scanning your herd or repro tract scoring prior to an AI or ET program, but what is it all about?

🐂For cows or heifers to respond well to the synchronization protocol for AI or ET, they have to meet a few requirements:

✅ They need to be cycling or not in deep anoestrus

✅ They need to have a mature reproductive tract with functional ovaries

✅ They need to be free from illness, disease or injury that can cause reproductive problems

The aim of pre-scanning a herd is to identify any animals that may not respond to a program. This allows you to make the following management decisions:

➡️ Select which animals may be your best replacements

➡️ Choose an appropriate synch program for herds with high numbers of non-cyclers

➡️ Hold back any late maturing animals or feed appropriately

➡️ Set your expectations for success in your program

➡️ Identify and treat any illness, injury or parasite issues

➡️ Cull/sell any cattle you may no longer want in your herd

📣So, is a pre-scan worth it? We say absolutely it is! 🎉
