This holiday season, let’s make Christmas lunch a joyous occasion for everyone! Understanding IDDSI is vital in creating meals that are both festive and safe for our loved ones with swallowing difficulties. Here’s how carers can craft a delightful modified Christmas lunch:

1. Festive Flavors: Think about incorporating traditional flavors into pureed or minced versions of your favorite dishes. A twist on classic recipes can make all the difference.

2. Vibrant Colors: Use colorful vegetables and fruits to keep the festive spirit alive on the plate. Presentation matters, and a bright meal can uplift the mood.

3. Texture Matters: Follow IDDSI guidelines to ensure the right consistency. Whether pureed or minced, make sure each dish fits the required texture for enjoyable eating.

4. Family Involvement: Get family members involved in the meal prep. Sharing the cooking experience can create lasting memories while ensuring everyone’s needs are met.

Spread warmth and joy this Christmas by making sure everyone can enjoy the celebrations, one delicious bite at a time!

Two of our Speech Pathologists, Lara and Caoimhe, presented a very successful dysphagia (swallowing) training package to almost 40 care staff at Valley View Residence in Collie. The participants had opportunities to practice (and sample) modified fluids and identify the different diets that they provide daily at their facility. As always, the staff were engaged and enjoyed the interactive work shop and will be able to ensure their residents will continue to have safe and enjoyable mealtimes. Friends
