Ahead of this Saturday night’s opening round of the 2026 AFL Barwon All Abilities Competion at GMHBA Stadium, we’re sharing a story that captures what this competition is really about 🙌
For siblings Sarah and her younger brother JSK, All‑Abilities football has become far more than something they do each week — it’s where they belong.
Sarah has proudly been part of Newcomb Power Football & Netball Club for four years. When jaw surgery ruled her out of playing this season, stepping away from footy wasn’t really an option — the club, the people and the routine mean too much.
“Sarah still wanted to turn up,” her mum Deb says. “She didn’t want to lose her people.”
So Newcomb Power made sure she didn’t.
Instead of being sidelined, Sarah was given a game‑day role supporting the coach and her teammates — staying connected, included and an important part of the team she loves.
For her younger brother JSK, the journey looked different. After trying mainstream football and finding it didn’t quite fit, joining Newcomb’ Power's All‑Abilities team changed everything.
“In this environment, JSK has found his place,” Deb explains. “He runs onto the field now without worry. He knows he belongs.”
This is what All‑Abilities sport delivers — confidence, connection, routine and purpose and reminds us that community, care and belonging are the real wins — and they matter far beyond the final siren 🧡
