Cancer Rehab Awareness Week - because nobody should miss out!!
Have a quick watch of this video from ....Still a powerful and relevant message for us, one year later 😇

"I came out of cancer victorious but still broken. In a lot of ways, the biggest battle for me wasn't the cancer itself, it was rebuilding myself after that...

Research has confirmed that the therapeutic relationship itself is essential to the success a patient experiences. Some studies have even called it the most important common factor to successful outcomes.

🔺 A good cancer rehab therapist has a deep interest in their client as an individual and will work with them in ways that are sensitively tailored to the person’s specific needs. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to cancer rehab, because no one person is like the other.

🔸 I think there is an even greater need for good therapeutic relationships in an era where screens, apps, texts and emails dictate how we live and communicate.

🔺 Our Pinc & Steel Cancer Rehab Physios and OTs contributions to helping people in their recovery from cancer are immensely valued. The healing powers of personalised attention cannot be overstated and no app or website can replace this.

Happy New Year Next Steppers!!
This year I'll be moving into the Public Health Sector....a huge decision but hopefully one that'll see me rolling out more cancer rehab programs in the coming years with the help of our hospital systems! 😁🤞

I'd like to continue to run NEXT STEPS until our new instructors are ready to go - can i please get some feedback on appropriate timeslots for a centrally run class?
- Thurs evenings at 6.30/7pm
- Sat mornings with a creche option available
- online Zoom sessions after work hours again?

Thanks everyone in advance x

This is a great article discussing how a Mediterranean diet may be useful in reducing your risk of cancer and cancer reoccurance. For a long time we've suspected a link between some cancers and an unhealthy pattern of food consumption and/or obesity. A diet high in unprocessed and plant-based foods may be the key 🤔 and the answer...

According to Associate Professor Judith Lacey, at Chris O'Brien Lifehouse, when it comes to breast cancer, research indicates that diet may indeed play a role.

New Blog: The PALB2 gene and its links to breast cancer

When it comes to discussing a hereditary predisposition for breast cancer, usually the genes BRCA1 and BRACA2 are the ones that take centre stage. And for good reason. Research suggests that women carrying a mutation in either gene have a 7 in 10 chance of developing breast cancer by age 80. But there is another gene that scientists are studying for its relation to breast cancer predisposition: the PALB2 gene.
