We are all humans, and no one is immunie to a bad day 🧡
This week we asked our psychologists here at Mind Up Psychology to share their go-to's to help them through a bad day!
There are a number of important takeaways:
1. We all have bad days, it's important to recognise and acknowledge that you are having a bad day so you can take the necessary steps to trying to improve your mood.
2. Connection is important, often times when we are around people we love, playing games with friends or even spending time with our pets, our mood improves!
3. Movement can be incredibly beneficial to create distance from the thoughts that may be contributing to a bad day and what your feeling, we know exercise, such as going for a walk or some light yoga releases positive endorphins which can help boost our mood.
4. Reverting back to the things we truly love, when we are having a bad day we often revert to the things that bring us the most joy, like reading a good book, listening to our favourite music and eating our favourite food.
We hope this post serves as a reminder that it is OK to have a bad day and that we should be prioritising our mental health on these days.

Rest is more than just "doing nothing." 🌿
We live in a culture that prizes "the grind," but we weren't built to be "on" 24/7. When we talk to clients at Mind Up about burnout, they often say, "But I'm sleeping! Why am I still so exhausted?"
The truth is, sleep is only one type of rest. If you are mentally overwhelmed, a nap won't fix it. If you are emotionally drained from caretaking, 8 hours of sleep won't make you feel lighter.
True restoration happens when we address the specific area where we are pouring out the most energy.
Take a look at the carousel above ☝️. Which of these 7 types of rest feels like it’s at "zero" for you right now? Identifying the deficit is the first step toward feeling human again.
We’re here to help you navigate these shifts.

Does the thought of a simple medical appointment leave you feeling overwhelmed? For many, it isn’t just a "quick jab"—it’s a source of genuine distress that can become a real barrier to staying healthy. 🩺🩹
Needle phobia (trypanophobia) is more common than you might think, affecting 1 in 5 Australians. If you or a loved one find yourself avoiding essential care because of this fear, please know that you aren’t "overreacting." Your feelings are valid, and there is a path forward.
Our latest blog post explores the science behind needle fear and how modern therapy is changing the experience. We cover: ✨ Why needle phobia happens (and why it’s not your fault). ✨ The impact of sensory overload and past experiences. ✨ How our Phobia Clinic VR Program uses Virtual Reality to help you reclaim control in a safe, guided environment.
You don’t have to push through the panic alone. Read our full guide and learn how we can help you face your fears with confidence.

The 2025 school period is coming to a close.
As the year ends, many families begin to reflect on how their child has coped academically, socially, and emotionally.
If your child has been struggling with learning, attention, behaviour, or confidence at school, an assessment can provide clarity and direction before the next school year begins.
Psychological and educational assessments help identify a child’s strengths, areas of challenge, and learning profile. They can support:
• Better understanding of how your child learns
• Appropriate school adjustments and accommodations
• Targeted intervention and support planning
• Increased confidence for both children and parents
• Clear recommendations for teachers and allied health professionals
At Mind Up Psychology, we offer comprehensive assessments including:
• Cognitive assessments (WISC, WIAT, WAIS)
• Educational assessments
• Neurodivergence assessments, including ADHD and ASD assessments for individuals aged 13 years and older
An assessment is not about labelling. It’s about understanding, support, and setting your child up with the right tools to thrive.
If you’re considering an assessment for 2026, now is a great time to enquire.

Healthy communication isn’t about saying everything perfectly in the moment.
It’s about creating safety, understanding, and connection over time. 🌱
It often looks quieter than we expect.
A pause before responding.
Naming how you feel instead of placing blame.
Curiosity instead of assumptions.
These small moments matter more than big speeches or winning arguments.
When someone communicates this way, your nervous system registers it as safety.
You feel heard rather than judged.
Seen rather than attacked.
Connected rather than defensive.
Over time, these patterns reduce conflict, build trust, and strengthen emotional intimacy, not because disagreements disappear, but because repair and understanding become possible.
Here are a few signs of healthy communication:
✨ Using “I” statements to express feelings without blame
✨ Pausing before reacting to regulate emotions
✨ Clarifying meaning instead of assuming intent
Healthy communication isn’t loud or dramatic.
It’s steady, respectful, and intentional.
At Mind Up Psychology, we support individuals and couples to develop communication. These skills help people navigate conflict, strengthen relationships, and feel safer being themselves.
You don’t need to change everything at once.
Start with one pause.
One curious question.
One honest “I feel.”
👉 Save this post as a reminder of what healthy communication can look like.
