Elliot’s Exploration 💧🔤

This week, one of our favourite “good moments” came from Elliot and his love of two things: letters and water.

Elliot carefully brought letter pieces over to the water trough and placed them in alphabetical order before beginning his next adventure—exploring the water with a suction pipette. For the next 15 minutes, he was completely fascinated, experimenting with the water and fully immersed in his discovery.

Moments like these remind us how powerful it is when children are given the time and space to follow their interests.

Our Therapy-Free Wednesday Child Care Day is designed exactly for this—to allow children to explore, play and learn at their own pace, letting curiosity and imagination lead the way.

Sometimes the most meaningful learning happens in the simplest moments of exploration. ✨

Spoilt for Choice

Brigitte, our wonderful Bald Hills Centre Manager, shared her good moment this week:

"One of my favourite 'good moments' happened during a simple walk through the centre.

"I stepped into a classroom and saw shelves filled with activities just waiting to be explored. Moments like this always make me smile. You can almost see the children being drawn in the moment they arrive, curious about what they might play with first.

"For our youngest learners, especially, having inviting spaces like this makes such a difference. The colourful materials, the choice of activities and the sense of discovery can quickly turn those drop-off blues into excitement for the day ahead."

It’s a small moment—but one that shows how the right environment can make children feel welcomed, engaged and ready to explore. ✨

Insect Hunting 🐜

Richel, our Toowoomba Centre Manager shared one of her good moments this week. "One of my favourite moments came from a simple new resource and a lot of curious little explorers.

"Last year, a few of the boys loved searching for bugs in our playground, but after a couple of weeks their interest faded. So this morning I brought out something new—a bug vacuum and a bug house.

"The moment the children saw them, they ran over with so much excitement. Soon they were spread right across the playground, carefully scanning the ground and plants, looking for anything that moved.

"By the time we returned to the playground this afternoon, they went straight back to the bug house. Inside were lots of ants, and the children watched them closely as they explored their tiny home.

"One of the boys sometimes finds it hard to say goodbye to things he loves. We talked about how ants need food, fresh air and water to survive, and that the best thing we could do was let them go. I explained that tomorrow we could search for more bugs together. Although he was hesitant at first, he happily left with Mum knowing the adventure would continue.

"And tomorrow it will—because this afternoon I’m stopping by Target to pick up an ant farm discovery kit. Then we’ll start researching what ants need to survive and keep our insect investigations going."

Sometimes the best learning starts with a little curiosity and a lot of tiny creatures. 🐜✨

This International Women’s Day, we’re celebrating the autistic girls in our Centres and the women they may one day become.

Autistic girls have historically been under-recognised and misunderstood. Organisations like Yellow Ladybugs are helping to change that narrative and ensuring autistic girls and women are seen, heard and celebrated for who they are.

At AEIOU, we have the privilege of supporting a number of incredible girls who are curious, determined, creative and deeply thoughtful. With early support, inclusive environments and strong family partnerships, these girls are building confidence, communication and independence. These foundations may one day see them leading in classrooms, workplaces and communities. Early intervention is not about changing who a child is. It is about ensuring they are understood, supported and empowered to thrive.

Today, we celebrate autistic girls and the leaders they may become. 💗

Harvey the Spiderman 🕷️

After the class recently spent time colouring Spiderman portraits, Harvey was clearly feeling inspired.

Not long after, he headed into our motor room to show off some heroic moves of his own—leaping, jumping and channelling his inner superhero.

It was wonderful to see him using the space to let out all that Spiderman energy, turning imagination into action.

Our motor room is such a valuable space for children to move their bodies, build confidence and express themselves through play.

And in Harvey’s case… it might just be the perfect place for a superhero in training. 🦸‍♂️

✨ This is what AEIOU can achieve for children with autism ✨

During her time at AEIOU, Niamh made incredible progress—not just in her development but also in her happiness and confidence. She was content, supported, and truly cared for in a safe, accepting space designed for children like her.

For Niamh’s family, AEIOU offered so much more than childcare. It brought peace of mind. Knowing their child was safe and understood improved their mental health, reduced daily stress, and provided meaningful respite. It even made it possible to spend precious one-on-one time with siblings—moments that wouldn’t have been achievable otherwise.

With the guidance, therapy, and unwavering support from the AEIOU team, nothing ever felt like a burden. Every step forward was shared, supported, and celebrated.

Today, Niamh is ready for her next chapter at school—and much of that readiness is thanks to the care, expertise, and dedication of the AEIOU community.

💛 We are so grateful to be part of these journeys and to everyone who chooses to study, work, and give back to children with autism.

Meet Ayden 💙
A bright, curious, and joyful little boy who loves letters, music, and exploring the world around him.

Ayden has been part of the AEIOU family since January 2025, and his energy, curiosity, and sense of fun make every room he enters feel brighter.

Ayden receives enteral nutrition, meaning he gets the nutrients his body needs through a feeding tube to help him grow strong, healthy, and full of energy. Enteral feeding is one of the many ways children can be supported to get the nourishment they need — particularly when eating by mouth feels overwhelming, when medical conditions affect swallowing or digestion, or when extra support is needed to ensure they receive the right balance of vitamins and energy to thrive. And that support is completely okay.

Recently, our AEIOU Townsville team partnered with the Alliance Clinics Dietetics & Nutrition team to complete a refresher training in enteral feeding. The session focused on safe feeding practices, equipment use, and hands-on techniques to support children who receive nutrition via a feeding tube. This training helps ensure Ayden continues to receive consistent, positive, and individualised care, so he can fully access his early intervention supports and thrive in learning, play, and everyday moments.

While Feeding Tube Awareness Week has just passed, raising awareness doesn’t stop with the calendar. We’re proud to continue recognising the strength and resilience of children like Ayden and to highlight the important role feeding tubes play in supporting children to grow, learn, and live full lives.

We’re incredibly proud to announce our partnership with the Brisbane Broncos and the AEIOU Foundation as 1 of 12 Charity Partners selected for the Broncos’ 2026 Charity Partner Program 💙💛

As part of the program, players will work alongside each charity to help share their stories, with every partner recognised at a dedicated Broncos home game during the season. Recently, four players visited our Nathan Centre, and the children were thrilled to show them the fun play they were having that day. (Even big kids, aka centre staff, were joining in!)

The Broncos’ commitment to community impact is something we deeply admire.

We’re excited to stand alongside the Broncos, AEIOU Foundation, and the wider Broncos family in creating positive change where it matters most.

Thank you to the Brisbane Broncos for the opportunity to be involved in such a powerful community initiative. We can’t wait to share this journey with you in 2026.

Follow along as we share more throughout the 2026 season.
