As we gather in the quiet of the dawn this morning, we mark the 111th anniversary of the landings at Gallipoli. It is a day that stands at the heart of our national identity, a time to pause, reflect, and give thanks.

Today, we honour the original ANZACs whose courage and sacrifice forged a lasting legacy. We also extend our deepest gratitude to every man and woman who has followed in their footsteps, serving in our name across all wars, conflicts, and peacekeeping operations.

We remember those who never returned to their families, those who returned carrying the invisible burdens of service, and the families who have supported them through every generation.

Lest we forget.

From the team at Australian Veteran Health Services, we honour your service and remember your sacrifice.

AVHS has partnered with SmartCare UrgentCare to strengthen urgent care access for veterans, serving members, and Defence families in the Greater Springfield and Ipswich region.

This partnership gives AVHS patients access to Emergency Specialist Care for urgent, non life threatening presentations that arise between routine appointments, including acute pain, suspected fractures, infections, chest pain assessment, wound care, eye injuries, migraines, and urgent mental health concerns.

Importantly, the model also provides:

đŸ©» same day CT, X ray, ultrasound, and pathology
đŸ„ clear escalation pathways to hospital care where needed
đŸ©ș support that remains connected to ongoing veteran healthcare and DVA care pathways

It is a practical model designed to improve timely access, clinical continuity, and local support for the Defence community.

Dr Andrew Cronin from AVHS explains an important benefit many veterans are not aware of. You do not have to wait for your DVA claim to be approved to access mental health treatment.

Through Non Liability Mental Health Care NLHC, eligible veterans can begin receiving support straight away, even while their claim is still being assessed.

At AVHS, Dr Cronin and the team bring medical care and claims expertise together in one place, helping you access treatment sooner while your claim progresses.

As of the 8th of April 2026, DVA expanded eligibility for Household Services compensation as part of the MRCA simplification rollout. Household Services can cover garden maintenance, house cleaning, and similar tasks where a service-related injury prevents a veteran from performing them. Many veterans don’t know they’re entitled.

Your service connection could mean DVA-funded help with home maintenance. Ask us how we can help at your next visit.

This Anzac Day, the journey is taken care of.

On 25th of April 2026, veterans and their families can travel free on public transport across Australia.

In Victoria and Tasmania, free transport is available for everyone, all day. Across all other states, veterans and their families are covered for the day.

Lest we forget.

ATTENTION VETERANS: Major changes are coming July 1st 2026.

From this date, the VEA and DRCA will close to new compensation claims. All new claims will be assessed under an improved MRCA.

Here’s what you need to know:

Already receiving payments? Your entitlements are grandparented and continue as normal.

The one exception, DRCA incapacity payments will transition to the (more beneficial) MRCA system.

Haven’t lodged a claim yet? The window is closing.

This is the biggest shake-up to veterans’ entitlements in decades, and it affects every current and former ADF member.

Don’t wait until it’s too late. If you’re unsure how the July 2026 changes affect you, speak to us. We navigate DVA so you don’t have to.

Book an appointment today.

Thank you to Shayne Neumann MP for visiting us at Australian Veteran Health Services in Springfield Central last Friday.

We appreciated the opportunity to discuss our work supporting veterans and to acknowledge Shayne’s strong and consistent advocacy for veterans and their families, both in his electorate of Blair and nationally.

His interest in the practical challenges facing veterans and the services that support them was very much welcomed by our wonderful team.
