Iron deficiency is one of the most common nutrient deficiencies I see in clinic. Focusing on increasing your intake of Iron rich foods can help to improve levels.
Ideally the recommended intake of Iron per day is:
ใฐ๏ธMen over 19 years - 8mg
ใฐ๏ธWomen between 19 and 50 years - 18mg
ใฐ๏ธWomen over 51 years- 8mg
ใฐ๏ธPregnant women - 27mg
ใฐ๏ธWomen who are exclusively breastfeeding - 10mg
ใฐ๏ธ Infants (7-12months) - 11mg
ใฐ๏ธ Children (varies dependant on age & gender) between 9mg-15mg)
(*this may vary depending on your individual needs, as during periods of growth, exercise, menstrual periods etc you may require more)
If you have been Iron deficient for years & years it is important you rule out other underlying factors as to why youโre low, as there can be many reasons.
