This week we say goodbye to visiting Master's student Sofia, who came all the way from Milan, Italy. Sofia has spent the past six months with us exploring community gardens in Springfield, and how they support the health and wellbeing of a community.
You may have seen Sofia out and about in Springfield, or even been a participant in her interviews.
We are wishing Sofia safe travel home and hoping she will be back in Aus in no time.

🌡️💧 Hot water for weight loss, clear skin, or cramp relief… does it actually work?

Our team has just published a new article in The Conversation, unpacking one of the internet’s most persistent wellness trends: drinking hot water.

You’ve probably seen the claims — that it boosts your metabolism, clears your skin, “detoxes” your body, or eases period cramps. But what does the science actually say?

🧠 Here’s the short answer:
Drinking hot water can feel soothing and help keep you hydrated, but there’s no strong evidence it 'melts fat', clears toxins, or dramatically improves skin health. And while warmth may offer some comfort during cramps, hot water itself isn’t a cure.

✨ What does matter?
Consistent hydration, balanced nutrition, movement, rest, and evidence‑based care.

Read the full article here:

Go on, drink hot water if it makes you feel good. But don’t expect it to have magical properties beyond staying hydrated.
