In September, our Director, Laurance, had the opportunity to speak at the Aged Care Nursing Seminar hosted by the NSW Nurses and Midwives’ Association at Penrith RSL.
He presented a practical, evidence-based session on falls prevention in aged care, exploring how allied health professionals and nursing teams can work together to reduce falls, promote mobility, and manage complex care needs. The session included nurses from a variety of settings, including in-home care, residential aged care, and hospital environments.
Laurance highlighted how physiotherapists, occupational therapists, exercise physiologists, and podiatrists each contribute to supporting mobility, independence, and wellbeing in aged care. He also shared practical strategies around:
- Selecting and using mobility aids effectively
- Developing targeted exercise programs
- Maintaining good foot health
- Making home and environmental modifications
- Considering how chronic conditions and cognitive decline can influence falls risk
Attendees walked away with actionable insights to strengthen collaboration between nursing and allied health teams, improving safety, mobility, and quality of life for residents and clients.
If your workplace, community organisation, or social group is interested in hosting an education session or workshop like this, we’d love to hear from you!
