Prof Naji Abumrad MD, FACS is a world-renowned leader in the medical industry with over four decades of experience as a scientist and a surgeon. He is the Professor of Surgery, Chair of Emeritus and Vice Chair for mentoring section of Surgical Sciences at Vanderbilt University. In 2014, he was elected to the American Association of the Advancement of Science. He is also the Chair of TSI Group LTD’s Scientific Advisory Board.
Dr Abumrad is the co-inventor of HMB (Hydroxy- β-methyl- butyrate), a nutraceutical that supports healthy muscle mass and normal muscle function, both of which change with age. Dr. Abumrad also collaborated with the founders of HobamineTM focusing on the health benefits they bring related to aging, resulting in several issued patents. 2-HOBA is a compound extracted from Himalayan Tartary Buckwheat that contributes to the protection of DNA from free radical damage. It supports general cell health and acts as a scavenger for reactive carbonyl species that are caused as a secondary process to oxidative stress in human cells.

The Australian Institute for Musculoskeletal Science (AIMSS) Fracture Care and Prevention Program at Western Health (Sunshine, Footscray and Williamstown Hospitals) has been awarded Gold Star accreditation from the International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF) – the leading global organisation in the field.

AIMSS runs in collaboration with the aged care, endocrinology, allied health, anaesthesia, emergency and orthopaedics units at Western Health.
