About Time For Justice

About Time For Justice Helping Survivors of Institutional Child SA seek Justice and start HEALING⚖️⛓️.

15/04/2026

When you’re going through the criminal justice system, one of the hardest things is trying to navigate it without the right legal support.

When Jacob was dealing with jail and the courts, finding a good criminal lawyer wasn’t easy. At times, it felt like he was just another file moving through the system.

These days, the team at About Time For Justice speaks to people every week who are going through the same thing — people who feel like they’re not being heard, not getting the right advice, or just don’t know what their options are.

That’s why About Time For Justice works with a panel of criminal lawyers and legal professionals who understand the system from different angles.

Some are privately funded lawyers, and some work within Legal Aid panels where the government funds the representation.

Different people need different support depending on their situation — whether it’s criminal matters, compensation issues, or other legal challenges connected to the justice system.

If you’re currently dealing with the courts and you’re unsure about your representation, you don’t have to handle it alone.

Showing up every day doesn’t always look big.

Some days it’s progress.
Some days it’s just getting through.

But consistency is what builds momentum — especially when you’re navigating something difficult, uncertain, or overwhelming.

At About Time For Justice, we see it all the time.
The people who keep turning up, asking questions, and taking small steps forward… they’re the ones who create real change in their situation.

You don’t have to have it all figured out.
You just have to keep showing up.

Jacob grew up in housing commission — he knows what it’s like when times are tough.

He’s seen his mum do everything she could just to put food on the table.

That’s why this hits home.

The team at Park Towers Community Pantry are doing real work — putting food, clothes, and support directly back into the community.

And this is the next one 👇

PROOF THE SYSTEM WORKS, just not for those it should

Queenslands prisons are filled with people who were victims long before they were inmates. The states own government data reveals what Jacob Little's personal story reflects - 68% of women in QLD prisons are survivors of sexual abuse, while 1 in 3 incarcerated men endured childhood sexual violence. For kids trapped in the system; 43% of these youths were abused while in state care, often by the very insititutions meant to protect them.

Children who suffer abuse are far more likely to end up criminalised by the same systems that failed them. Trauma manifests in survival crimes... theft, addiction, acts of desperation. Yet rather than addressing the root cause, QLD funnels survivors into prisons where rehabilitation is an afterthought. 89% of abused inmates never received trauma counselling before getting locked up, and without meaningful support upon release, 72% will reoffend.

How's this - programs that provide housing, employment and trauma-informed care slash reoffending to just 11%. I'm not a smart man, but I'm pretty sure a 61% drop should be something we should be funding.

Organisations like About Time For Justice, founded by survivors for survivors, are doing what the system won't - they'll listen without judgement. Fight when others look away. They'll believe. Institutions will waste millions on empty reforms, while ATFJ will deliver what actually works; peer support from people who truly understand, relentless advocacy and most importantly - proof that healing is possible.

Insideout Pathways stands with them in this fight, and through both our organisations we're proving what the data already shows; that no one is beyond redemption when given the tools to rebuild. The pollies have these numbers, I just don't understand why they continue to invest in failure. Surely this is proof that the system is working exactly as designed...

He turned 18 in jail.

Not at home. Not surrounded by family. Inside a prison system most people only ever see in movies.

At the time, Jacob was held in Brisbane Boys’ Yard, which sat inside Brisbane Correctional Centre — a maximum security men’s prison. The boys’ yard was where 17-year-olds were placed, even though the rest of the facility was an adult sentenced prison.

In jail, people are usually either on remand or sentenced. Remand means you’ve been charged but the court hasn’t sentenced you yet.

That was his situation.

He hadn’t even been sentenced, but when he turned 18, the system moved him out of the boys’ yard and into the adult prison system.

The next step was Arthur Gorrie Correctional Centre in Ipswich.

As a young bloke who had already been through more than most people knew, that moment was confronting. When you’re that age, most of what you think you know about prison comes from movies and stories. You don’t really know what’s waiting on the other side of those gates.

What you do know is that the system can move you fast — from youth detention into adult prison before you’ve even had the chance to process what’s happening.

A lot of the survivors ATFJ supports today went through institutions like youth detention, boys’ homes, prisons, foster care, schools, and church-run organisations.

For many, the trauma didn’t stop when they left those places.

And for some, speaking up years later is the first time anyone has really been listened to.

Some people don’t even realise how much something’s still affecting them…

They just get used to it.

The pain.
The impact.
The way life changed after it.

And they assume it’s too late to do anything.

Sometimes it’s not.

We help people understand their options and connect them with lawyers who specialise in motor vehicle accident claims.

We are not a law firm and do not provide legal advice. We provide support and advocacy and connect people with lawyers who do.
