❣️ this baddie deserves a spot on the grid

running your own business is a challenge that many don’t understand, plus then the challenge of being a naturopath treating each person as a rightfully unique individual, so this type of feedback means the world to me as an empathetic cancer sign ✨ 🦀 srsly

When you realise herbs can’t be patented or made in a lab and they have been used to treat disease since the start of time❣️

Wow ❣️ from having psoriasis to being psoriasis free for 2 years 🥰

Seeing results like these are what I live for 🙏

What didn’t work- immunosuppressants & steroid creams

What did work - correcting the gut microbiome & immune system, calming the nervous system & balancing hormones

Natures vit C 😇 aka “scurvy weed”, this stuff grows all over Brisbane and the south east. The pretty flowers and leaves can be added to salads, or smoothies for your green “boost”.

Vitamin C is a nutrient that is destroyed fairly quickly via heat and oxidation, so many supplements are not in fact vitamin C.

We have entered an era where there’s a supplement for this, and a supplement for that.

Ads are being disguised as “education” - “professionals” that are paid by supplement companies are paid to shill a product on a 3 hour long podcast. Sure, there’s a lot of data now telling us how beneficial certain supplements are. But when you look into the “quality” of the studies, you will quickly realise they’re of poor quality - they are funded by supplement (pharmaceutical) companies, using controls that are laughable.

The irony is many people are moving away from “big pharma” & relying on medications. But now you’re relying on rebranded big pharma - the supplement industry.

Don’t be fooled❣️

Supplements are supplementary to a good diet and lifestyle.

If your diet is poor, or your lifestyle requires additional support, or you have a diagnosed chronic illness, you might need long term supplemental support.

Outside of this - supplements should be SHORT TERM or intermittent. And they should be in correct dosages, correct forms, and of superior quality, for the right amount of time.

Excessive hair loss is distressing 🫣

You can have natural phases where multiple hair follicles are entering their last “shedding” cycle, causing an excessive amount of hair loss all at once. However, if you have been losing over 80 strands of hair for more than a month, this is considered abnormal hair loss and should be looked into

Your hair, nails and skin are often the first ones to be affected when your body starts to get distracted with nutrient deficiencies, illness, inflammation, hormonal imbalances, stress etc

Other signs besides hair loss to look out for when something deeper is happening include:
Slow hair and nail growth
Dull, dry hair
Excess split ends
Brittle and soft nails
Skin hydration/oil/texture changes
Energy change

I have a soft spot for aged care after being a support worker for 10+ years. Dementia wards are a terrible place to end up at.

I’m always imagining what a persons quality of life would look like if it was looked at with a holistic lens..

Studies have shown INFLAMMATION increases the risk of dementia so it is important to investigate causes of inflammation..

If you care about PREVENTION - these things are important to nurture. You can also do a genetic test to see your risk factors for dementia 😵

Oral microbiome health - the mouth harbours trillions of species and when out of balance, they create toxins which cause inflammation that can cross into the brain

Comprehensive testing - simple nutrient deficiencies can mimic cognitive decline! B12, folate, vitamin D - the reference range provided by the Lab is NOT an optimal level either.
Many people are unaware of how many tests you can do via the blood - there’s hundreds of markers - most people have 3-4 things checked

Gut microbiome: science tells us that the gut controls inflammation, and also controls neuroplasticity; which is how the brain can adapt to stress and repair

Environmental toxins: glyphosates, endocrine disrupting chemicals, heavy metals, mineral imbalances can all affect how the brain functions - unfortunately environmental toxins can be “hidden” in the environment so a test will help you identify what it is

Stealth infections: infections in the nose and even eyes can trigger dementia - Australia doesn’t have the right technology to properly culture samples - we use old methods that aren’t reliable and produce false negatives - you can send samples to America that are more accurate for stealth infections

If you keep sidelining the gut, your skin will keep reacting. Even if you have no gut symptoms, you NEED to be treating your gut when you have acne.

Here’s what I see constantly in clinic:
Women & Men with:
• Hormonal acne
• Bloating
• Mood changes + chronic fatigue
• IBS
• History of the pill or antibiotics

When we repair the gut and support hormone clearance…
their skin shifts.

Not overnight.
But gradually.
Long term.

If you’ve “tried everything” and nothing works, it may be time to look internally.

Comment GUT and I’ll send you the first steps I recommend for clients with acne.

🥳

My fave thing to do is teach people how your body connects internally and externally.

I like to think about the body as a garden 🏡

➡️ you need to water your garden otherwise you will wilt (brain fog, fatigue, immunity issues/disease, poor fruit (fertility), not “thriving”)

➡️ you need beneficial plants (microbes) in your body - fermented foods + good gut health

➡️ & you need to help them grow! - fibre + good gut health

➡️ you need to fertilise your garden for optimal health - we have our own ‘worm farm’ in our body (our GUT!) that fertilises for us, so we need to make sure we feed our farm correctly otherwise we will get disease. We can also fertilise using TEMPORARY (!!) supplements

➡️ extreme stress in your environment will affect you ‼️

➡️ every now and again you need to ‘weed’ (detox)

You are what you eat.

Humans need locally sourced, seasonal, whole foods that have been properly prepared (fermented, soaked, sprouted etc). With minimal interventions (hormones, grains, medications, pesticides, preservatives).

Not a specialised diet. Real food. Intentional eating.

You can’t fix your energy without fixing your diet.
You can’t fix your mood without fixing your diet.
You can’t fix your skin without fixing your diet
You can’t fix your iron deficiency without fixing your diet.
You can’t fix your weight troubles without fixing your diet.
You can’t fix your hormones without fixing your diet.

Not sure where to start? Be guided by me 🙌✨ all it takes is a comment or a DM.

What SUSTAINABLE changes look like —>

This person had been recommended a FOURTH round of roaccutane (over 6 years) & had decided to seek an alternative approach.

How long it took:
12 weeks

What we did:
💮 Swapped over to corneotherapeutic skin products
💮 Cleaned up the diet - minimal sugar, focus on hydration, focus on low GI eating & protein rich breakfast
💮 Increased skin turnover using high dose good quality fish oil & zinc
💮 Did a gut protocol based off symptoms
💮 Supported the liver due to medication history
💮 Implemented daily breathwork to manage anxiety

The plan now:
😇 Work with a skin therapist to implement needling to reduce the scar tissue
😇 Continue working on gut microbiome diversity
😇 Continue supporting skin microbiome barrier topically while using needling
😇 Begin to work on other health goals now that the primary goal has mostly improved

Your skin does not improve overnight - it can take MONTHS of hard work - it is a mix of diet changes, lifestyle changes, + QUALITY & intentional supplements.

The most common diet mistakes that I see in clinic in someones diet:

😵 Overeating complex carbs - complex carbs are found in potato, sweet potato, carrot, beans, all grains like corn, wheat, and rice, as well as beans, lentils and legumes
Excessive complex carbs = too much glucose/energy for the body to use = fatigue after eating, inflammation, insulin demand which eventually drives insulin resistance and weight gain. This issue also contributes to PCOS
My recommendation: reduce complex carb intake and swap with other vegetables instead - pumpkin, zucchini, eggplant, all salads etc.

😶‍🌫️ Undereating or overeating protein - undereating protein will cause muscle weakness, poor appetite, immunity issues and chronic fatigue
Overeating protein will cause IBS, diarrhoea, loose stools and can lead to adverse bowel conditions like inflammatory bowel disease and bowel cancer.

🫥 Lack of diversity - eating the same thing all the time will limit the variety of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and other important plant chemicals that your body needs. It will also negatively affect your gut microbiome, which affects everything from mood & energy to immunity and fertility.

🥲 Lack of fermented foods - fermented foods = beneficial bacteria/probiotics. Probiotics living happily in your gut help to make the other food you eat more digestible and make the nutrients within that food more bio-available . These microbes also create byproducts that control your gut, brain, immunity, metabolism and even hormones.

🤐 Having a higher omega 6 fat intake vs omega 3 intake. Omega 6 is inflammatory, omega 3 is anti-inflammatory. Omega 6 is mostly found in red animal proteins and vegetable/seed oils, omega 3 is from wild caught seafood and seeds. This imbalance causes symptoms of inflammation - chronic fatigue, depression, mood changes, obesity, chronic illness and disease.

If you think you have hormonal acne, a blood test and/or saliva test can help you confirm it ✔️ test, don’t guess!

Common blood tests I run in clinic:
For women:
Menstrual cycle DAY 3 hormones (the day is super important!!): you want LH, FSH, estradiol, SHBG, testosterone, f testosterone, IGF-1 + other hormones like prolactin, cortisol & insulin
+
Cycle day 21 (if having a regular 28 day cycle): progesterone, estradiol & SHBG

For men:
All of the above but the timing doesn’t matter, it just needs to be fasting 🤌

I often recommend functional saliva or dried urine testing if I suspect an estrogen dominance issue, as it will look at all 3 estrogens, not just the one in a blood test.

Estro dominance symptoms look like: dull, congested, irritated skin with brain fog, mood changes and heavy periods.

It’s great to set a baseline in the beginning, so you can retest after treatment to ensure things are back in balance. 👸
