Welcome Olivia – Physiotherapist,

We’re excited to welcome Olivia to the team at Physiochoice Stafford! 🎉

Olivia began her physiotherapy career in 2025 after graduating from the University of Otago in New Zealand. She initially worked in Christchurch before relocating to Australia and joining the Physiochoice team.

Olivia is passionate about helping people of all ages regain functional ability and confidence following injury. Having grown up in the ballet community and trained as a dancer from a young age, she has a strong understanding of the physical demands and pressures faced by performing artists.

She has a particular interest in supporting dancers through injury recovery, helping them build the strength, control, and foundations required for long-term success and performance.
Having lived in several cities across New Zealand and spending part of her teenage years in the United Arab Emirates, Olivia values working with people from diverse backgrounds and tailoring treatment to each individual’s goals, experiences, and needs.

Please join us in giving Olivia a warm welcome! 👋

🦵 Osgood-Schlatter’s “Growing Pains”?

Is your child or teen complaining of knee pain during sport, running or even after a big growth spurt?

Osgood-Schlatter disease is a common cause of knee pain in active teens and tweens, especially during periods of rapid growth. It often shows up with:
✔ Pain just below the kneecap
✔ Tenderness or swelling at the top of the shin
✔ Increased pain with running, jumping or kneeling

The good news? They don’t always have to stop sport completely — but they may need the right plan.

Our Physiotherapists at PhysioChoice Stafford can help guide recovery and return to sport with:
✅ Appropriate diagnosis
✅ Activity modification advice
✅ Taping or brace support
✅ Strength and stability training
✅ Load management strategies

A few simple tips:
• Avoid pushing through sharp pain
• Reduce high-impact training temporarily
• Keep up strength work (don’t just rest completely)
• Ice after sport if sore

TERM 1 SPORTS ARE UNDER WAY
🏃‍♂️🏐 Fast-paced. Multidirectional. High demand.
AFL and Volleyball involve:
• Sprinting
• Sudden direction changes
• Jumping & landing
• Repeated overhead or kicking loads
Growing bodies + rapid movements = higher injury risk if load builds too quickly.
Keep Teens Game-Ready:
✔️ Prioritise strength (glutes, core, landing control)
✔️ Build training load gradually after holidays
✔️ Warm up properly — don’t skip it
✔️ Don’t ignore persistent knee, ankle, shoulder or back pain
Early physio input can prevent small niggles becoming season-ending injuries.

📚🎒 Middle School = Growth Spurts + Heavy Bags + More Sport.

Grades 7–10 are prime time for posture changes, growth-related aches and overload injuries.

3 Smart Habits for Teens:
✔️ Strength > Slouch
2–3 short strength sessions per week (glutes, upper back, core)
✔️ Break the Sit Cycle
Stand, stretch or walk every 30–45 mins during homework
✔️ Load Smart
Backpack under 10–15% body weight + gradual return to sport after holidays

Growing bodies fatigue quickly — persistent knee, heel, back or shoulder pain isn’t “just growing pains.”
If your teen is struggling with posture, sport overload or ongoing aches, early physio input can prevent longer-term issues.

With school back, we’re seeing a spike in aches and niggles from heavy backpacks, long sitting days, and the return to sport and dance.
