🎉 Fun Fact Friday

Did you know Elton John continues to inspire millions despite significant challenges? 🎹

Elton lives with serious vision loss—blind in one eye and limited sight in the other after a severe infection in 2024. He’s also faced epilepsy and a heart condition requiring a pacemaker.

Despite these obstacles, he keeps performing, creating music, and inspiring fans worldwide. 💛

Fun fact: His resilience shows that having a disability doesn’t stop someone from chasing their dreams and making an impact. 🌟

💜 International Women’s Day – 8 March 2026 💜
Balance the Scales ⚖️

Today we celebrate the strength, resilience, and achievements of Australian women and girls — in our workplaces, communities, families, and beyond. 🌸

This year’s theme, Balance the Scales, is about creating a future where:
✨ Women are safe
✨ Women are heard
✨ Women have equal opportunities
✨ Women can shape their own futures

It’s about backing each other, breaking down barriers, and making sure fairness isn’t just an idea — it’s reality.

So today, let’s:
💜 Celebrate the women who inspire us
💜 Support women-led businesses
💜 Lift up the voices around us
💜 Keep pushing for progress

Here’s to strong Aussie women — past, present, and future. 👏💜

📢 Heads Up: NDIS Planning is Changing!

The Australian Government is introducing a new way of planning for the NDIS, called new framework planning, to make plans fairer, simpler, and easier to use.

Here’s what you need to know:
✅ The rollout starts mid‑2026 with a small group of participants and will expand over time. Most people won’t notice changes straight away.
✅ Children under 18 won’t be part of the initial changes.
✅ Current plans stay in place until participants move to the new system.
✅ Participants will receive info before anything changes for them.

What’s new:
• A support needs assessment with a trained NDIS assessor to better understand your goals and support needs.
• Plans will be simpler, clearer, and more flexible, while still approved by NDIS staff — not automated systems.
• More consistent, fairer decisions and easier-to-use budgets.
• Participants can still request a review of their plan, including external reviews.

No action is needed right now — but stay tuned for updates and information from the NDIS.

🍒 What is NDIS Plan Management?

Plan Management is like a cherry on top of your NDIS funding — it doesn’t take away from other supports. It helps you:
✅ Keep track of your budget
✅ Pay providers easily
✅ Understand your NDIS spending
✅ Stay on top of invoices and reporting

It gives you more flexibility and support, while letting you continue using all your other funded supports.

Call one of our friendly Plan Managers today and see how we can help you get the most out of your NDIS plan! 💛

🎉 Fun Fact Friday 🎉

Did you know Australia has a Disability Sports Hall of Fame? 🏆

Yep – athletes with disability are smashing records and making history every day. From wheelchair basketball to para swimming, Aussies are proving that nothing can hold them back… except maybe forgetting your water bottle 😅💦

Some fun stats:
Australia has over 350 para athletes competing internationally 🏅

Para-athletes can compete in over 20 different sports

And yes… some of them can run, swim, or cycle faster than most of us could even think of walking! 🚴‍♂️💨

Moral of the story: disability doesn’t mean “can’t” – it means finding a new way to “can” 💪

Happy Friday from BBKM 💙

Pro tip: you don’t have to be an athlete to celebrate your wins this week – even making it to Friday counts 😉

🐾 Fun Fact Friday – 20.02.2026 🐾
World Love Your Pet Day ❤️

Today we celebrate our furry, feathery, and scaly companions — including the amazing role they play in supporting people with disability! 🐶🐱🐰

💡 Fun Fact:
Pets and assistance animals can have a big impact on wellbeing and independence. Spending time with your pet or an assistance animal can:
✔ Reduce stress and anxiety
✔ Support emotional regulation
✔ Encourage physical activity and daily routines
✔ Boost social connection

For many people with disability, assistance animals aren’t just pets — they’re partners in everyday life, helping with mobility, mental health, or autism support.

So today, give your companion an extra cuddle or a treat, and celebrate the love and support they bring 💕

🌱 Thriving Kids – What This Means for Families

Governments have committed $4 billion over 5 years to roll out Thriving Kids, the first phase of new Foundational Supports for children.

Here’s a simple breakdown 👇

Who is it for?
Children aged 8 and under with developmental delay and/or autism who have low to moderate support needs, along with their families and carers.

What is changing?
Thriving Kids will provide earlier, easier-to-access supports delivered through state services — helping children access supports in the places they live, learn and play.

Families will be able to access:
✔ Trusted information and advice
✔ Evidence-based allied health supports
✔ Services matched to their child’s individual needs

When does this start?
• State services begin rolling out by 1 October 2026
• Expected to be fully operational by 1 January 2028

❓ Will children already on the NDIS move to this new funding?

There are no immediate changes.

From 1 January 2028, changes to NDIS access will apply only to children aged 8 and under with developmental delay and/or autism with low to moderate support needs.

Children already on the NDIS before this date will be reassessed under the eligibility criteria that were in place prior to 1 January 2028.

More details about services and access arrangements will be released closer to the rollout.
