Perimenopause is a hot topic nowadays and it seems so many more women are struggling than ever before.

And that’s partly because we are FINALLY talking about these things and not suffering in silence.

Partly because the medical world is SLOWLY doing more research about it.

And yes, there’s major changes in our society like:
😣 environmental toxins
😣 more processed foods
😣 poor sleep due to light exposure
😣 even having kids later in life is a possible factor

But the BIGGEST factor I see that makes a women barely survive during perimenopause is…

Pressure.
Always being on the go.
Doing all the things.

AKA

A big congratulations to Bree-Anna for receiving her long awaited M.o.M prize after winning the monthly challenge in August last year 😜

Bree-Anna was nominated not only for achieving every habit in the “Healthy Hormones” monthly challenge last year but she also received the nomination for always joining in on every single monthly challenge as well as every exercise, weight increase or different style of training I threw at her in class.

Over the past term, it’s been an honour to help her continue moving her body in her third trimester and seeing her feel / keep strong in her pregnancy 🤩

She’s not done yet though - couple of weeks to go AND she still wants to keep moving!

🌟What are your health and fitness goals you are working on right now?
Staying active during pregnancy & trying to keep the body moving.

🌟What has been your greatest achievements since joining?
Getting stronger & feeling more confident with exercise! Being able to do proper push ups and assisted pull ups were a huge achievement 💪

🌟What is your favourite type of class?
Some mornings restore classes are just what I need with a more gentle approach & connecting with the core and Pelvic floor. Other days I love the more intense training in empower.

🌟What challenges have you overcome along the way?
Finally getting back into exercise after a number of years being Sedentary.

If anyone reads the newspaper anymore… today in the Herald Sun there was an article in the Wellness+ section that featured me as one of experts to help you get better sleep through strength training 🤩

It also included a slow paced, bodyweight strength session to help promote better sleep (as long as you don’t do it too close to bed 😉).

The top tips from myself and exercise scientist Amelia Philips to help get a better nights sleep by strength training:
💪 Compound movements that work multiple muscles is best
💪 Get your workouts in 2-3 hours before bed if exercising at night - this allows for the body to go into “cool down” mode to activate your “rest and digest” nervous system - needed for a good nights sleep
💪 Don’t sacrifice deep sleep to get an early workout in as this overtime can impact recovery and fatigue
💪 Priortise both - move the body CONSISTENTLY and do the things that promote DEEP SLEEP

Remember: good quality sleep is just as important as movement and nutrition when it comes down to your metabolism, cravings and energy!

Now for those that follow me, I’m not one to label foods “good” vs “bad” but there comes a time when not having a balance between whole foods VS processed foods is going to mess with your body - and I’m not here for that.

I am constantly seeing trainers promote their weight loss program by promoting “lower calorie / higher protein” options that are also…
Ultra processed.

But because these trainers are underqualified and don’t care too much for your health - just weight loss - they think this is what all their clients should be eating

Especially women!

But here’s what they’re NOT telling you…
👉 You’re also stripping your body of fibre.
👉 You’re losing essential nutrients.
👉 And you’re replacing real food… with ultra-processed products.

And for women - this matters. A LOT.

Because fibre isn’t just about digestion…

It feeds your gut.
