Paschimottanasana - Seated Forward Fold

Today we are visiting a seated forward fold and how blocks can completely transform the experience.

In the first photo, I’m sitting on a block to slightly lift my hips off the ground. This allows me to sit more comfortably, releasing tension and tightness from the back of my legs. This makes the pose more accessible, without compromising alignment.

In the second photo, I’m using a block to deepen the pose. Here I am holding the block at the base of my feet. This lengthens the reach. A further reach, creates a deeper fold.

Same pose. Same prop. Different needs.

Uttanasana - Standing Forward Fold

Today we are visiting a standing forward fold and how blocks can completely transform the experience.

In the first photo, I’m using blocks to modify the pose. To bring the ground closer to me. This makes the pose more accessible when experiencing tightness, without compromising alignment.

In the second photo, I’m using the blocks to deepen the pose. Standing on the blocks deepens the fold, creating more intensity through the back of the body.

Same pose. Same prop. Different needs.

Sound Healing Meditation is back on our timetable 🙏

Join Helen this Tuesday at 7:30pm for a grounding and deeply calming meditative experience.

Sound has been used for centuries to support rest and healing.

This session begins with the steady rhythm of drumming to help you ground, settle, and fully arrive in the space.

From there, you’ll be guided on a soothing soundscape journey designed to support your meditation and ease you into a deeply restful state — where true healing can begin.

All props, pillows, and mats are provided.

A kirtan is a musical practice in the form of a call-and-response chanting of sacred mantras. Creating community connection, fostering love, peace and joy.
Accompanied with instruments like the harmonium, guitar, singing bowls, and drums.

Rooted in India’s Bhakti tradition, Kirtan is a form of yoga (Bhakti Yoga, the yoga of devotion) that encourages direct emotional connection with the divine and supports a deep meditative state through repetition of sacred mantras.

At Yoga 101, we create a joyful space to gather through sound and mantra—come to listen, sing along, or dance if you feel inspired!

It’s open to everyone, creating a feeling of peace, unity, and shared experience.

When: Friday 30th January, starting at 7.30 pm
Where: Yoga 101

There will be chai and treats afterward if you would like to stay on. Kirtan ends at 8.30 pm, and the whole event wraps up at 9.30 pm
