Story of a Music Therapy Participant
“Music therapy has been a transformative experience for my 13-year-old daughter, who is Autistic and has ADHD. After outgrowing traditional therapy, music became her therapeutic tool. She’s always loved music, and music therapy allowed her to express herself in ways that words couldn’t. It has helped her manage anxiety, frustration, and sensory overload while giving her a safe space to communicate emotionally.
Through tailored sessions, she’s built confidence, improved her focus, and found emotional release through rhythms, songs, and instruments. Music has played a crucial role in her mental health and well-being. Without it, I’m not sure she would be in the same place today. Music therapy has truly been a lifeline, offering her joy, peace, and self-expression in a way that no other therapy could.
I cannot understand why NDIS thinks Music Therapy does not meet the standards required for classification as a ”therapy“ under NDIS guidelines. It has been the one therapy that has helped my daughter, and I would recommend it to other families facing similar challenges that we have. I hope the NDIS reconsiders their decision.”
