Nowhere to Stay 😞

Greg tried everything — moving furniture, changing the layout, trying to make the space work. But no matter what they did, Rowena still couldn’t get into the ensuite.

When they called the manager, the response was simple: “All our rooms are the same.” 🤷‍♂️

It was 8:30pm in Lennox Head. They had nowhere to stay.

Moyai empowers accommodation providers to take ownership of their accessibility data — identifying what they do have and ensuring it’s represented accurately across whatever platform they desire. Helping businesses to welcome up to 20% more customers whilst improving your customers experience! 👏

Because no one should be left without a place to stay.

The Office Chair Rescue🚨🙈

With no accessible toilet in reach, Greg got creative.

He grabbed an office chair, held it steady and Rowena transferred onto it — unsafe, but the only option. The rails she was promised? Both above her shoulder height and one behind her head.

In that moment, she had to laugh. Because when accessibility fails, humour is sometimes all that’s left.

Moyai helps accommodation providers identify safety risks and ensure that accessibility information is accurate, practical and usable — so guests don’t have to improvise again.

The Doorway Dilemma

Greg came back looking deflated, but Rowena’s optimism never wavered.
“Come on,” she smiled, “let’s just have a look.”

She just scraped through the door — a tiny victory — until she realised she couldn’t reach the bathroom. Tight doorways, narrow spaces, change in surface height at every threshold.

These are the small design choices that make a huge difference.

Moyai gives venues the tools to assess, understand and accurately represent their accessibility features — not just what “looks” accessible, but what actually works.

Together, we can make travel work for all bodies, minds and needs. Follow to be part of the change!

First Impressions 😬

After seven hours on the road, Rowena and Greg finally arrived. But as they turned into the driveway, her heart sank. It was steep and far from what she imagined when she was told it was “accessible.”

Greg went to check things out while Rowena waited in the car, hopeful but already unsure.

Accessibility starts long before you reach the room — it begins with the path to the door.

Moyai helps accommodation providers identify, audit and share accurate accessibility information, giving guests confidence before they arrive.

Parents with prams. Delivery drivers. Travellers with heavy luggage. People using mobility aids. We all benefit from accessible design especially step-free access.

What was once seen as ‘disability access’ is really just good design for everyone.

Step-free entrances don’t just remove barriers they open doors to independence, safety, and comfort for the whole community.

That’s why universal design matters, in every café, shop, venue, and public space.

The Search Begins! 👀

After 2½ months in hospital, Rowena was finally going home. Her husband Greg was driving down from Queensland to pick her up and all they wanted was a little vacation together to reconnect.

She spent hours on the phone — one call after another — trying to find somewhere “accessible.” It was exhausting, but eventually she found a resort that promised it was.

Like so many others, Rowena trusted what she was told. She shouldn’t have to double-check or guess…right?

That’s why Moyai empowers accommodation providers to easily audit their accessibility features and communicate them accurately across whatever platform they choose, so stories like Rowena’s become a thing of the past.

On Saturday, Jess and I rolled up our sleeves — she gave blood, and I gave plasma — in support of Milkshakes for Marleigh! 🥤

My brother’s story features in Chapter 19, where we highlight how blood products played an important role in his journey. What I’ve come to realise is that blood donation doesn’t just impact the person receiving it, it touches and influences everyone around them. It can even shape someone’s why (Spoiler Alert ⚠️)

Why it matters:
🩸 Only 1 in 30 Australians donate blood, but 1 in 3 will need blood or blood products in their lifetime.
💛 Plasma can be used in 18 different life-saving ways — from treating immune deficiencies to supporting patients in surgery.
❤️ One donation can save up to three lives.

If you’re eligible, I encourage you to download the Lifeblood app, fill out the quick questionnaire and book yourself in today. It’s easy, meaningful and it truly makes a difference.

Together, we can all play a small part in someone else’s story.

Originally designed for wheelchair users, curb cuts (small ramps on footpaths) are now used by delivery drivers, cyclists, parents with prams, travellers with luggage = the whole community.
This is universal design in action.

Inclusion uplifts everyone.💫

That’s not a ramp… that’s a slippery slide 🛝😬

Don’t worry — you shouldn’t find anything like this in Australia thanks to our building standards.
But…. I got your attention, didn’t I? 👀

While this is an extreme example, it highlights why proper ramp design matters.
For a ramp to be accessible, it needs a gentle slope. Think of it like this:
➡️ For every step up in height, there should be 12 steps of length to spread it out.

Other important features include:
⚡ Contrast strips on the edges of steps
⚡ Warning tiles at the top and bottom
⚡ Handrails on the ramp
⚡ A non-slip surface
⚡ Enough width for safe use

Check your ramp and steps…do they have these features? What improvements could you make to improve the accessibility and inclusion of your venue?

Need a help to figure out what you could improve within your venue to welcome up to 20% more customers?
