As a Perinatal Yoga Therapist,  birth educator and a woman that has given birth both in and out of the hospital setting; I can share with you what the essential things are to know before you birth to help you best support the opportunity for a physiological birth for your baby.

We will be going through the 3 main pillars that make up the triangle for birth preparation : the Body, the Mind and the Nervous System : learning a range of practical tools to start implementing right now, during pregnancy and also during active labour. Feeling exhausted and uncomfortable isn’t just part and parcel of pregnancy - there is a totally different way you can feel and it is available to you when you utilise the VITALITY TRIANGLE; a proven integrated method I use as a Perinatal Yoga Therapist to shift clients from feeling like their pregnancy is happening for them, rather than to them:

1. Integration of the PHYSICAL BODY 🌻
Everything in the pregnant body is interlinked. What’s happening in your posture is affecting your pelvic floor and what’s happening in your pelvic floor is affecting your spine….and on it goes. Once you know how to alleviate and prevent certain imbalances you will find more space and ease across your entire body. 

2. Toning of the NERVOUS SYSTEM 🌻
When you learn how to ‘hack’ the body-mind relationship to regulate your Nervous System you will more easily return or move into a relaxed state that better supports pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum hormone regulation and your regulation of stress. When you regulate your hormones via the Nervous System, you decrease the symptoms we often experience when they are out of balance; including nausea, anxiety, insomnia, mood swings and fatigue. 

3. Redirection and replenishment of your ENERGY 🌻
One of the biggest issues we face as we grow and house life is our own depletion and the feeling of a constant level of fatigue. By working with both restorative and energy-based practices we can start to rebuild and release energy to take us out of this space and back into vitality.

🌻 A range of effective tools to use to integrate pain and challenge in childbirth (including breathing techniques, sound work, movement, visualisation and mind-techniques)

Birth Preparation comes in many forms but from my personal experience from two natural births and from many clients feedback I believe there is a Birth Triangle of preparation that you want to be making sure you are covering all 3 sides within. Each side interlinks and supports the next.

The 3 sides are

1) Preparing the BODY -
Tone, strengthen and open the muscles and ligaments that support spontaneous labour in beginning and labour more easily progressing

2) Preparing the MIND -
Equip yourself with the essential knowledge on how physiological birth works. Understand what beliefs you have about birth and how you can change these to better support the birth outcome you desire and how to step out of the mind during childbirth

3) Preparing the NERVOUS SYSTEM -
Use proven and potent tools to tone and prepare your Nervous System for birth. This is a key component to allowing your birth hormones to keep building and releasing, supporting both pain management and the progression of natural labour
