Bonn 🇩🇪 for 3 intense days with the IPC and leaders across Para sport, all pushing the same goal: fair, consistent, athlete-first classification.

Proud to be there representing the International Golf Federation — the aim: develop golf’s first IPC compliant code so to have a shot at the Brisbane Paralympics!

Huge thank you to the IPC team for hosting such a professional, genuinely collaborative meeting 🙌 and to the IGF for backing the work to build a world-class pathway for Para golf 🏌️

We’re thrilled for Seth! Congratulations on healing your ACL and steering clear of surgery!

Seth had the tough break of an ACL rupture and meniscal tear during a basketball game. After a GP consultation, he was referred to Caloundra Sportscare, where we reviewed all his treatment options.

Seth decided to “give his knee a chance to heal,” so he began the Global Bracing Method under the guidance of its founder, Dr. Kieran Richardson ().

The Global Bracing Method was devised using a preponderance of the current healing evidence, as well as the totality of the best surgical versus non-surgical data for ACL tear management (Owen et al., 2023), which suggests similar outcomes across key domains, with the presence of a meniscus tear further evidence to delay surgery (Filbay et al., 2017).

Seth has worked hard, balancing gym training with his apprenticeship, and now he’s reaping the rewards. He’s back to running, jumping, and enjoying his favourite activities!

Another inspiring success story of avoiding what seems like inevitable surgery!

Reflecting on last weekends course
- Noigroup’s newest course

Firstly, it’s refreshing to attend a professional development course that affirms my treatment philosophy.

Diving DEEP into the philosophical underpinnings of theories such as predictive processing, complexity as a nested system and the free energy principle was EPIC!
- FEP nerd some may say

Take aways that will help guide further subjective understanding in the clinic:
- Level of TRUST as “precision weighting”
- Level of EASE as “attractor states”
- Level of PERCEPTION as “prediction error” or “free energy”

The application of FEELING into my clinical practice is a game changer. I know have extreme comfort with complexity and (k)NOT knowing.

Thank you to Tim and Lea for presenting!

Breaking barriers on the golf course!
These incredible golfers prove that disabilities don't have to hold you back from pursuing your passions. 🏌️‍♂️🏌️‍♀️⛳️

Had an amazing time participating in the Vic Open last weekend and I'm so grateful for the opportunity! It's an honor to be a part of and I'm excited to contribute to the growth of All Abilities Golf in Australia.

Big thanks to for capturing these moments! 📷

* Beyond The Pain Wall *

People in pain are generally confused as to why they are in pain and are worried that things will get worse. They become rigid and ineffective problem solvers and begin to withdraw. Their wants and desires tend to narrow. Cue the classic quote: “A healthy man wants a thousand things, a sick man only wants one.” - Confucius. Does this sound familiar?

I’m assuming that the one thing the sick person desires is to be PAIN-FREE. Why is this such a bad thing to focus on? Well, it’s incredibly hard (possibly impossible) to remove a thought, emotion, sensation or association from your perception. Yet, this is what we are all seeking for when we aim for a life without our pain.

Rather than focussing your attention on becoming PAIN-FREE, I suggest that you focus your attention on things which you CAN control.

Acknowledging this new perspective is the first step in living a life beyond pain. Rather than focusing on the metaphorical wall - that is your pain. I encourage you to continue with this metaphor by peering through the window in your pain-wall. Look beyond to see what the valued activities you’d like to engage in more.

Now with this new found psychological flexibility, I’d like to ask you a question. What steps can you make right in this very moment (the here and now) that will take you towards that person you see beyond your pain wall?

We've all been there...
As human beings, we generally are reactive to any given consequence... Especially when the effect is immediate!

I wonder what happens if I put my hand on this pipping-hot stove-top?
- Immediate "OUCH" that's what!
-- I guess you'll be taking PROACTIVE measures to avoid that experience again. Right?

Yep, it's a classic PROACTIVE vs REACTiVE quote

You'd probably agree that as a society, we are generally reactive rather then proactive.

Now this is a myopic philosophical framework for life.
More so due to the delay of consequence some of our actions/behaviours carry.

Just ask you parents about their sun smarts growing up... I guess they didn't see those consequential skin cancers coming?

Let's insert the chronic hip pain scenario shall we?
"Yes! Goodbye pain. Hello old way of (inactive) living" 😀
Fast forward 3-6-12 months...
"Hello pain, my old friend"😞
Hands up who's been on this pain merry go round?

Sometimes we:
- are genuinely blind to the consequence of our actions/behaviours
- choose to to be blind to the consequence of our actions/behaviours

However, sometimes the consequences we face are so far down the line that we are unknowingly blind the effect today's actions are developing.

Let me know what you think?

🤓 Don’t want surgery… no problem. Conservative treatments are just as good in the short to medium term.

✖️We are still awaiting high quality studies measuring the effect in the long term

✖️ SHAM surgery studies should help to shape best practice guidelines…

✖️ Note the outcome measures utilised in this study ;)

Meet Damo and Jerry,

😔 Damo is weighed down by a heavy load of undesirable intrinsic factors.

😁Jerry, on the other hand, is living his best life by the uplifting nature of a stack of positive intrinsic factors.

🤔 Who do you think has less chance of sustaining an injury or holding onto pain?
