This was recently shared by a fellow OT student of mine and I thought I would also share as It is often a question I find hard to answer without a long winded explanation!😂 I am looking forward to the day I graduate and can call myself an Occupational Therapist!❤️😊

What exactly is occupational therapy, aka OT? Is it like physical therapy? Is is helping people find jobs? Well, it could be. But it's way more than that.  I think a better question would be “what isn’t OT?”

“If one side consistently bears most of your weight and the other side is passive, your sense of centre shifts toward the more active side of your structure. When your sense of centre is displaced, even a few milli-meters, your body image becomes distorted. One side will feel fluent and flexible, the other side slow and stodgy. There may be disparity in the strength of the two sides or in the sense of competence….”– Mary Bond

The concept of bilateral congruency is something I am constantly observing for, assessing, and modifying, when teaching. One piece of equipment that I find useful for challenging bilateral congruency is the Oov. Over the coming week I will share with you some of the ways in which the Oov can be used as both a stand alone tool and in conjunction with the Reformer and Vertical Frame.

Assymmetry is something that comes up a lot in my work. My own scoliosis gives me an inherent assymmetry that makes it impossible for me to skip straight to the hundred in my own practice. But my o…

Following on from my previous post, here is a fantastic way to utilise the to release the upper back and neck following prolonged sitting or texting! The small domes of the are being used to release the muscles along the spine and rib cage. Some of you have already experienced the delight of this exercise:-)

Have you come across the term "tech neck" or 'text neck"?! Are you guilty of the following .....?

Consider the scenario where we sit in front of our computer or tablet for 2 hours, our ligaments and muscles are straining to pull our spine back into an erect position. What was once purely a sitting at your desk with a computer in front of you problem is now a sitting in the car, on the couch, at the beach, and outside and even a standing up problem! Every day, when you hold your phone, your wrist is in a rotated position, your thumb is stretched out performing rapid repetitive tasks and most often you’re looking down with your head at a less than optimal angle. For every 2cm forward your head leans, you’re putting 5kg of extra strain on the joints of your spine, and after a prolonged time this can do severe damage to your upper back and neck.
