🏊♂️ Lake Boga Bank 2 Bank continues to showcase the best of community sport.
This year, Megan and I lined up for the 5km run, not chasing outcomes, but simply to be part of a morning that brings people together.
The buzz of race day made it impossible not to be swept up in the energy. Strong winds off the lake, smiling faces, flurries of nerves, and a quiet respect for what this community event has become. Even in tough conditions, B2B brings people together.
It was great to see CMH friend Frank Violi put together a strong run on the day. Always impressive. Congratulations Frank.
A highlight was watching Megan complete her 5km while still navigating a bit of rehab. There’s determination in moving patiently, listening to your body, and staying present when it would be easier to rush or compare. Seeing her cross the line with a smile a reminder that progress does not always look dramatic, sometimes it simply looks steady and honest.
Events like this are shaped by people who give beyond their own race. Arlie Atkinson not only swam strongly, placing third in her division, but also helps organise B2B alongside her dad, Kendall. Seeing Kendall also place in his division felt like a well-earned moment for a family that gives so much to organise the event.
The swims were full of stories. Friends Eva Wong and Steph Hartshorn took on the 3.1km swim with confidence through testing conditions, and Leah, unsure she would even make the start line, went on to not only finish but win her division. That quiet belief is part of what makes B2B special.
Some of the most powerful moments came away from the results. Frank, at 76 years young, completed his final B2B swim, a true picture of movement across the lifespan. And Karen, the final finisher, crossed the line with a beaming smile and tearful pride, reminding everyone that finishing really is winning.
MoveSwim Swan Hill and Bendigo, thanks for creating a space where movement feels accessible and communal.
Running 5km for the first time in 10 years, the encouragement along the course made all the difference. Watching the swimmers head into the lake has planted the seed for swimming next year.
