One of the biggest struggles I hear in clinic:
“My IBS is so bad in the mornings, I end up spending most of my time on the toilet.”

If this sounds familiar, you’re not alone, it's more common than you think.

As humans, we’re naturally designed to have a bowel movement first thing in the morning.

When you wake up, your digestive system wakes up too. This morning urge is triggered by a natural reflex called the gastrocolic reflex.

The difference? Someone without IBS will have regular, pain-free p**ps, while someone with IBS may experience bloating, cramping, and funky p**ps.

In other words, your body is just amplifying a natural process that it wants to do anyway- eliminate waste.

So instead of cutting out more foods, blaming dairy & gluten, or blaming yourself, the key is to tune into your symptoms and support your body to do what it naturally needs to do.

This will make your mornings easier:

✨Slow down- Don’t rush. Give yourself time for breakfast and a relaxed toilet routine.

✨Mould your p**p so you can p**p daily - Think of it like playdoh. Certain foods can help thicken or soften your stool depending on what your body needs.

✨Don’t skip meals- this throws off your blood sugar, and your hormones & IBS won’t like that.

✨Check your eating rhythm- Are you snacking all day or overeating in the afternoon/evening? That can upset your gut in the morning.

✨Add variety- Eating the same 5 foods on repeat can weaken your gut health. Your gut thrives on diversity!

✨Support rest & digest- Deep belly breaths before eating to support your nervous system so you can digest your food properly                                                                                    ✨Food is not the enemy- Often, it’s not what you eat but HOW you eat it.

Keep going & supporting your body. You’re one step closer to living a life without IBS.

I've just come back from a 3 week  family adventure in Japan. It's been 9 years since I've travelled overseas and TBH for the most part of those years travelling to unfamiliar places & far distances would give me anxiety.

Thoughts like

“ What am I going to eat on the plane that won't make me bloated”

“ Will I be able to get to the toilet wherever I am?

“ I hope I don't get a flare and waste my day in bed at the hotel”

None of these thoughts once crossed my mind the entire trip because I have worked on nourishing my body and supporting my gut.

I was off cooking for 3 weeks ( mumma’s dream) besides the daily non-negotiable breakfast meal prep to keep bowels moving

We ate out everyday & choose foods that would nourish us but also tried new interesting foods

Made sure we p**ped daily -&  I kept a close eye on the kids because sore belly's are the worst when you're busy

Everyday was actioned packed we walked until hubby got blisters - at least 20K steps daily

We left the hotel at 9am and back by 7pm to get a good night's sleep so we were refreshed

I'm not sharing this to brag to you about it but I've been working on my gut health for a long time and I wouldn't be where I am today if I didn't.

If you're sick of having IBS making you feel like crap & you're also navigating your changing midlife perimenopausal body - I've got you!

Keep an eye out for my new program launching soon!
