What can you do to ensure that your assessment process goes as smoothly as possible? 🤔

One thing is to think about your environment and how you position yourself and your child. You don’t want your data taking to be distracting, nor do you not want to record data online!

You also want to be able to see the parents and read them as you assess your child. You also need to have a sneaky clock somewhere strategic so you can check the time without checking the time, IYKYK...

Once, I am confident on my environment and positioning, I jump straight into my ax, in this case the CELF-P3, and get it done within 30-45 minutes. Do you need help with this assessment?

Sometimes you need to spend 5 minutes at the start of your assessment getting a feel for your child and their situation to figure out what would be the best language assessment for them. 🗣️

It can be good to have a speech sound or pragmatic assessment to do first sometimes to help you decide.💬

Alternatively, I also like to use a quick game like bubbles to help me decide!

I know we only just finished school holidays 🌞 and school holiday groups 🎨, but we’re already thinking about our January groups! I always love finding new and creative ways to teach children concepts while keeping therapy fun and engaging 💡

One resource I’ve found really helpful is the play tray from — perfect for all things sensory, messy, and creative.

In this photo, we were working on complex categorisation and vocabulary using ocean animals 🐠. Add a few drops of blue food colouring to the water 💧, drop in your items, and ask ‘wh’ questions to label, categorise, and talk about features. This helps children organise, store, and retrieve words more easily for everyday conversations and tasks.
Put this idea down for your next language group session! ✨

I learnt very quickly that my to-do list was causing me more stress than I needed! My life changed when I found this quadrant from Stephen Covey to help me take my to-do list one step further. Now this has become a way of thinking for me and enables me to be realistic with my time. I hope this helps you as much as it did me! ✨💖

If you’re not thinking about your PD for 2026 yet, this is your sign to start now! It’s good to set time aside to think about what you want to learn, what clinical direction you want to take, what gaps you want to cover and your caseload needs.

Courses can fill up quickly and we often need to organise with our workplaces budgets and diary schedules.
